I didn't see this in any of the forums listed here, so I thought this would be the appropriate forum to post it in. I saw this news on the BSC Community on LJ: www.amazon.com/Summer-Before-Babysitters-Club/dp/0545160936/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251990038&sr=1-2The Plot, according to Amazon: Before there was the Baby-Sitters Club, there were four girls named Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, and Stacey McGill. As they start the summer before seventh grade (also before they start the BSC), each of them is on the cusp of a big change. Kristy is still hung up on hoping that her father will return to her family. Mary Anne has to prove to her father that she's no longer a little girl who needs hundreds of rules. Claudia is navigating her first major crush on a boy. And Stacey is leaving her entire New York City life behind... ...in order to find new friends in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. The Summer Before . . . is a sweet, moving novel about four girls on the edge of something big - not just the Club that will change their lives, but also all the joys and tribulations of being twelve and thirteen. ======================== Some people are being skeptical, as there's nothing else on any other website about it. And Ann's website on Scholastic hasn't been updated since last month, so I guess take it with a grain of salt? Regardless, if it is true, it's great to have some new BSC material coming out! Maybe Scholastic is trying to test the waters by putting out a new book to see how a new generation of readers responds to it? Some Sweet Valley book were re-released, and I think Goosebumps re-released some of their titles. Could the BSC be next?

!!!!!
I'd rather have a book that takes place after the regular BSC series, but the thought of anything new being released is very exciting!!

This sounds like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books with four stories intertwined. It also sounds like a rehash of the first four books. If it's true then I'm excited that maybe more things could come out of it, but I'm also kinda bummed out by the plot. I think Ann's had enough time to come up with something a little more original.

This sounds like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books with four stories intertwined. Or Ann Brashares's Three Willows, which is a second-generation of the sisterhood but for a younger crowd. But yes, that's definitely what I thought, too. (I don't mind, since I love the Sisterhood books! The first couple at least.) I can see where some of you are coming from, preferring a brand-new BSC story with the girls in high school, but I actually think this sounds good. It'll be fun to see the girls before they were really friends (except for Kristy and Mary Anne, of course). And even though we got some insight on Stacey and Laine's falling out in the super special, I think there's a lot more Ann could get into with Stacey's plot. All in all, I think it sounds awesome! I know some people are worried about this being a hoax, especially since the release date is slated for April 1st. I personally don't feel the relase date is indicative of a hoax - April is so far away, would anyone really be planning a joke for that far ahead? A joke on BSC fans, no less. Just my opinion, at least.

Exactly, who would play a joke on us? We're not exactly a massive community...

I'm hoping it's not a hoax-- why would they make it available for pre-order if so? Has anyone actually tried to pre-order it, for that matter? Haha. Anyway, YAY! It sounds like nothing new exactly (we've all read SS#11 and the portrait books, right? ) but still, I'll get it for sure. Who knows, maybe a re-release will follow??

OMG, this is awesome! I want it now lol ;D. ITA with rainbowgirl that I would rather have a book that takes place after the initial BSC series (especially since the plot is nothing new and exciting, just an expansion on the plots we already know) but I love prequels so this should be interesting. I just hope that it'll have the BSC charm in it and not updated to fit the times, especially since it wouldn't make sense. So it's being released on April 1st 2010, that's next year and not far from now, awesome! ;D I hope it's not a hoax. I'm excited at the prospect of discussing a new BSC book with all of you . I know it's too far away to know, but I'm curious to see if they'll label this as a YA or children's book.

I am very excited too, though also agree wirh Rainbowgirl that I'd prefer a 9th grade (at least) plot. Although if AMM would take the time (we could certainly help her ) to fix the inconsistencies in the original as well as dare I say update them a little for the times and maybe just maybe have the girls only be in 8th grade for 12 years (instead of 13) and 9th for one...I would truly be ecstatic. This book probably is simply a test for series relaunch as it was. But lol can always hope for new/improved. Maybe we could as a forum send AMM a letter? Might get whoever reads her mail attention faster, slighter greater chance that she'd read it herself, and pay us a visit on here. An idea. Mona

I want to order the book already. But I wish Abby, Jessi, Mallory, Dawn, Shannon and Logan would be in it even though they're not orginial members.

I wonder if Mallory might get a mention (even if it's just a brief one)? For fan service, at the very least?

^I can't help but be skeptical, either. It would be awesome, but the lack of info makes me wonder.

Someone on LJ knows someone who works at Scholastic and they confirmed it was real. I think Amazon is pretty legit when it comes to stuff that they are taking preorders for. Ann could always change her mind, but hopefully when she sees how excited we all are she won't

^Yeah, I saw that, but still. It just seems weird to me that there's no mention of it on the scholastic website. Hopefully this is not a hoax. Or someone is bound to get f'ed up by our fandom. LOL, jk.
