The cover is OK. Nothing will ever beat the original look of the covers for me, though. I agree . Nothing will ever beat the original covers ;D.

One exception- Claud doesn't look at all Asian on the original cover of #2. She doen't look like herself from #1, even!

I wonder how many a times a day a person can check chapters.ca to see if the new books are in their local store yet before it is considered a mental disorder.

"free-spirited Claudia, whose preoccupation with her first boyfriend also alienates her older sister (who liked him first)."

Thanks for posting the review, candykane! It'll be interesting to see what kind of reviews the prequel gets elsewhere, since PW reviews tend to be positive (although not always, which makes it really weird when something gets a negative review in PW but positive ones everywhere else).
It is completely bizarre to think of Claudia and Janine liking the same boy.

Thanks Candycane for posting that. It is very odd to read Claudia and Janine liking the same boy. Although I could *maybe* accept something like Claudia somehow developed a crush on Jerry, so when he and Janine got together, she was jealous. Otherwise, and in all reality, makes no sense. Oh unless, it was during one of Claudia's 13 years of 8th Grade or lol her second of 7th, and she was feeling particularly bad about herself and picked a fight.

I agree that Claudia and Janine liking the same boy seems strange. I feel that their taste in guys would be pretty different. I'm keeping my eyes out for any other reviews. I'm waiting for School Library Journal to publish one!
ETA: My library is getting a copy of this! I'm going to scream with joy! I told my coworker who buys kid's fiction that she HAD to get this for me the library. Yay!

I bought copies of the reissues of Kristy's Great Idea and Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls today!
Heh, I typed that sentence hours ago and just now came back to my computer, opened this tab on my browser, and discovered that I had never actually clicked "Post Reply." Oops.

Um wow, that information about Claudia makes me a little nervous. Her boyfriend is someone Janine liked first? Janine was 15 when the books started. Claudia was 11 (and turns 12) in the summer before 7th grade. So, it would be unusual for a 15-year-old girl to like someone who was younger than her, which makes it look like an 11/12-year-old is dating someone who's around 15...this does not like a good situation.
I also could have sworn that they said in the books that Claudia had never had a boyfriend before, but I can't come up with a reference.
I'm surprised that on Amazon, TSB isn't even #1 in the BSC category (the first graphic novel is). That doesn't seem like a good sign for sales, right?

There was a positive review in Kirkus Reviews. It's a bit spoiler-y, so don't read on if you want to avoid spoilers.

Thanks for putting up the Kirkus review!
It's nice to know that there is going to be some continuity. I clearly remember in Kristy's Great Idea where Kristy said "My father can be sort of a jerk sometimes. He even forgot my twelfth birthday last month." Looks like we'll be seeing him forgetting about it here in the prequel.
It will also be interesting to read about Laine turning on Stacey, even though we've already had Stacey recount it for us in other books.

I'm getting rather pessimistic about this. We've already had plenty about Kristy's deadbeat dad and Laine's treatment of Stacey, and I'm not looking forward to reading more about the creepy years of Richard. Claudia's story is the only one that's sounding good and that's just because it's a little out there.
