I'm surprised that there's no thread for this book. I liked reading this book. I enjoyed reading about the concert, such as how Dawn tried to get the tickets, how she tried to bribe Jack and Carol into letting her go and what happened at the actual concert. I like that Dawn and Sunny made up at the end but it's sad that Mrs. Winslow's condition has gotten worse and that she'll die in the next book.

I like it too. My favorite parts are the concert and Dawn and Maggie's day out shopping and having lunch.
I think it may be the diary that I read the most, I always felt the writing was particularly good. The parts about Mrs. Winslow are so sad, when they realize she won't be getting better.

The ending of this book always made me happy and sad, I loved that Sunny and Dawn made up, but it was sad that it was under such sad circumstances.

Is this the one where Gracie is born? I have not read it.

Did anyone else find it unfair that Mr. Schafer grounded Dawn for Ducky getting drunk? Or that he made her promise that her friends wouldn't drink? How was she suppose to control what her friends did? She was punished for being smart & responsible by calling her dad for a ride home when Ducky couldn't drive. I can see why Dawn didn't explain about everything Ducky had been going through, he probably wouldn't have listened. Loved how Dawn was brave enough to steal Ducky's keys & how Ducky admitted it wasn't safe for him to drive.

^ I looked and I didn't see Mr. Schafer making Dawn promise that her friends wouldn't drink.

I didn't either until he was driving them & said something like didn't you promise me there would be no drinking? While Ducky was drunk in the back seat.

^ Maybe that was an inconsistency or Dawn just forgot to write about it in her journal.

I enjoyed this one, but it ticked me off the way Sunny treated Dawn and Ducky. I realize she is going through a lot but wow she said some nasty things.

I enjoyed this one, but it ticked me off the way Sunny treated Dawn and Ducky. I realize she is going through a lot but wow she said some nasty things. I thought she was rude to Ducky (although what she says to Ducky reminds me of what Dawn says to Mary Anne in 'Farewell Dawn'. I guess Sunny and Dawn are more alike than they'd like) but Dawn that evening behaved like such a little brat (when she 'sweetly' says that's Sunny's dad doesn't care about her because he's so wrapped up in her mother's illness, like, ooof, that's cruel even for Dawn) that I wasn't particularly upset for her.

I didn't either until he was driving them & said something like didn't you promise me there would be no drinking? While Ducky was drunk in the back seat. Super late reply I know haha. But she does promise that Ducky doesn't drink and drive and I think her dad's response is, "Well I hope not. He's not even old enough to drink." I think if we're being technical, she didn't break the promise, since Ducky didn't drink and drive. Her grounding was unfair. It was only for a weekend, but still, she didn't do anything wrong. Not right to expect her to control her friends. I remember loving this one when I first read it, but... eh. The first 2/3 or so of the book before the concert is sort of dull and too long. Surprising, since Ann actually wrote this one. This used to be my favorite Dawn diary, but now I think the first one is the best. It feels like they didn't really know what to do with Dawn on this series. I liked how she tried to get closer with Maggie and that you can tell they don't have as much in common in this series than in regular BSC. I like how this shows her closeness with Ducky. Her comment about him being such a guy was really weird though. Not offensive or anything, just weird. I think his long pause was meant as a Ducky-is-gay hint, but it felt off. Although I totally head-canon that he had a crush on Pierre. Speaking of Pierre, her daydreams of him were pretty funny if a bit tame haha. Dawn was a total jerk to Sunny in this book. I'm thinking of another word than jerk but idk if cursing is allowed haha. Really, she thinks this situation is as hard for her as it is for Sunny ("I'm in the same difficult situation she is." Can't remember if this is in Dawn 2 or 3, but yeah, it's bad)? She says he dad is too busy to care about her? That is LOW, Dawn. Despite me not liking this book as much, I do like how the reveal of Mrs. Winslow being in hospice care was done and how Sunny just totally lost it and hurt the people closest to her. It felt realistic. I love how Sunny and Dawn make up (pretty much) by the end.
