I started reading them when I was 7, with The Ghost at Dawn's House, because I loved "ghost stories" and picked it up only to find out that it wasn't really about a ghost. I kept reading them because I realized I shared characteristics with most of the main characters and I like serial novels.
Now I just like them because they are familiar and easy and relaxing.

Heh, yeah, I think the thread question was aimed toward the boys. Virgoscorpio replied, so at least she got one response that she was looking for. Lol.
I liked the series back in the day because that was my genre of choice. I liked modern day realistic (we can debate that now, but it's not like it was sci fi) fiction with girl narrators. Someone also mentioned the comfort of a book series because you already know characters, background story, writing style, etc. before you pick up a new book.
Now I like them because I'm a very nostalgic person and like all things from my youth.
