I voted Mallory. I think Dawn is insecure and she talks a big talk just to hide it, but Mallory doesn't even try to hide it.

I voted for Mallory too. I think a more interesting question would be "Who is the most secure?" I don't really have an answer for that. Maybe Kristy.

i would have to vote for claudia. she lives in a home where nobody appreciates her, is constantly compared to her ridiculously high-achieving sister, struggles everyday at school and is even sent back, and lost the only person who ever understood her when mimi died. she can surround herself with as many people as she wants, but i know she feels alone.

I think it could be argued that Dawn is more insecure than Mallory for that very reason; that Dawn is so insecure that she can't be honest about it.

I thought of Dawn, and then I thought of Claudia. I know a lot of people get frustrated with how dumb and lazy she is but I have a lot of sympathy for her. Ooh, and Mary Anne too. She liked to assume that if something was going wrong, it was her fault in some way.

I chose Mary Anne, for pretty much the reason you stated, booboo. She was always worried about what other people were thinking of her, and assumed people were thinking negatively about her.

^ I still think Mallory is more insecure than Mary Anne. I mean, she hates the way she looks (Her nose, glasses, braces etc.) When Mallory had to teach the class for that teachers of tomorrow program, she trembled and stuttered. She doesn't feel comfortable in her own skin. True, Mary Anne have issues but at least she isn't in that state.

^Mary Anne just bides her time and then throws mugs or tells people "to get out of her life forever." In that sense, Mary Anne is the most insecure of all of them. I do agree with Anzuhana's comment about Dawn. I'd like to (hope) think Mal has (or maybe had until she became the scapegoat) some degree of self confidence. I do think Mal seemed more "real" than say Dawn because her character was less exaggerated--it just got all the horrible breaks.

^ I agree that Mary Anne Is one of the most insecure people in the club but not the number one person. I do agree eventually that Mallory will eventually gain confidence in herself.
I always viewed Mary Anne as clingy. Is this a wrong assumption?

^ I agree that Mary Anne is insecure but she's not the most insecure person. Dawn, Mallory or Claudia is probably the most insecure.

I think "Clingy=" Mary Anne, Funky. Sometimes she is clingy to the point of dropping anyone/everything else (Kristy, others around her) to latch onto Dawn, mainly, and make sure Dawn is where/doing what MA wants. That's why the Dawn/MA friendship I think is often less about how MA feels abour Dawn and more about MA holding onto the "one friend" she made on her own.
Claudia is probably the most insecure overall.

One definition of insecure, from thefreedictionary.com = "lacking self confidence; plagued by anxiety." To me that is Mary Anne. Mallory lacked self esteem more than self confidence (apparently those are two different things), and any anxiety she had was caused by things that were actually happening to her. Mary Anne started flipping out a lot about "what-ifs" in her last few books.
I think Claudia (comparisons to Janine), Dawn (boys) and Stacey (boys again) were insecure about very specific things in their lives, but I wouldn't describe them as insecure people. After all, who doesn't have a weak spot?
