I don't think Dawn/MA had a "friendship--" at least not a healthy, positive one. Never read the CD's and not a big Dawn fan but I did like her and Sunny in Dawn's Portrait. Gasp, the two of them ate grilled cheese sandwiches together. I wish we had seen more of them as younger kids, might have developed Dawn's moving back to CA more.
^It would have been better had Richard and Sharon had a longer engagement (better still) had all of them done things, spent time together, before deciding to be married. Dawn and Mary Anne really did bring out the worst of each other, Supprazz.
^Sigh, maybe they would have. Too bad, really, Sharon's "announcement" (and perfect solution) never held firm throughout the series of every weekend her and Dawn shopping/cooking for the week ahead foods they like and for Richard and MA to do the same. Their should have also been a "Dawn" rule to shut up about other people's food choices and make her own for herself. If she wanted to make a special whatever and offer it around that's a million times different than making the others pay more money for her 2-3 pieces of pizza or insist in Chain Letter that MA bake Kristy a cake Kristy would not like.
Dawn + Sunny definitely! I haven't really read CD yet, but even just from the Portrait book, Sunny was waay better at handling Dawn than poor MA ever was. Sunny was everything Dawn said she was (and tried to be) but way cooler and nicer and laid back.

Dawn and Sunny, for sure! They have a lot in common and they've been best friends ever since they were really little and they hardly ever fought if not at all. Dawn and MA are just too different and they haven't been best friends for very long and they just didn't get along most of the time. Also the interactions between Dawn and Sunny are cute and nice and genuine while the interactions between Dawn and MA sound like they can just tolerate each other.
