Hey everyone!
From posting in the BSC ABCs thread, I came up with one of my own! Right now, I am currently reading #95 - Kristy + Bart = ?, and I have to say that I LOVE the cover. For some reason I am really inspired by it (that happens a lot to me with BSC covers). I love the nature in the background, the March feel -- since the book takes place in March -- and even the houses in the background. It makes me want to BE THERE.
We all love the BSC, some of us are even obsessed! So it makes sense that we are even obsessed with the covers (hey, we even snark them!) This thread follows a similar style to the ABCs of the BSC.
Essentially, we will each take one of the BSC books (in order) and comment on the cover. It's as simple as that! If there is more than 1 cover for a book (new vs. old) we should comment on them both. Feel free to comment as you like, there is no limit. Just one person per cover please!
I will go first...
Starting with 1 - Kristy's Great Idea.

#1 - Kristy's Great Idea
Old cover: They look more like some of their sitting charges rather than babysitters (okay, maybe except for Stacey!) And I love how super-artsy Claudia has the most BORING room that looks like it came out of the 60s or 70s. C'mon -- a red bedspread and yellow carpet!? MAJOR CLASH. And what is up with the bare white walls -- where is Claud's artwork?
New Cover: Much better! Except, picky me always finds something up with Claudia and Stacey's teeth. Kinda mangled. Maybe too many candy bars on Claud's part?

#2 Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls
I grew up with the UK versions so I'll comment on both
US: I like the US cover and I probably know it best for having baby Kirsten Dunst on the cover, and she looks cute! Claudia looks age appropriate, though her clothes don't have her usual wild, artistic flair to them.
New Cover: There is more background in this one and Claudia actually looks scared in this one, rather than nonchalant like in the old one but I prefer the older one.
UK: Some of the UK covers were terrible, I think Mary Anne got the worst covers but I liked this cover. Basically its a close up of Claudia with phone to her ear and she has a cool Skeleton earring hanging from her ear. I think she looks good though she looks way older than 13. (I also remember liking this cover because the phone looked like the one we had at my house!)

#3 The Truth About Stacey
I have the new cover of this one. I think Stacey's expression looks a bit shifty. It's a little hard to tell due to her bulky red jacket, but Charlotte might just be spouting a small paunch underneath. She's (probably) wearing "mom" jeans.
Yikes, on the original cover, Stacey looks nothing like "Stacey." She has huge brown hair and somewhat resembles Margot Cramer from Punky Brewster. "This" Stacey is also overweight but most definitely in 80's garb. Then there's Charlotte. Poor Charlotte. Didn't Claire Pike look similar to this on another cover? Char appears to be an older person trapped in a kids' body. I do like the background of the candy, it makes it look more like they are inside Polly's.

#4 Mary Anne Saves the Day
I actually have both US versions of this book so I'll give it a shot!
Old cover: I love how young Mary Anne looks on the cover of this. My biggest gripe about so many of the covers is that the sitters look way older than their actual ages, but Mary Anne definitely looks like a pre-teen here. I think Jenny Prezzioso looks way too much like a porcelain doll than an actual little girl, though. Her face looks older than Mary Anne's!
New cover: Jenny looks much more like a little girl on this one, and the ambulance definitely adds way more of a sense of urgency. Mary Anne still looks fairly age appropriate, except that I really don't see Richard having let her out of the house in a skirt that short! Also very admirable that her attention is solely on her charge when the paramedic holding Jenny has that "older version of Cam Geary" look going on.
Overall I think I prefer the old cover :-)

^This might be a silly ("of course there is") question but is there a link on our site that shows all the old vs new covers? "The Hidden Bookcase" seems to only have one or the other. My collection is mainly of the original covers.

^Thanks Greer. In the meantime, "Google" or "Ebay" will do.

#5 Dawn and the Impossible Three
Original Cover: Dawn looks only vaguely annoyed, mostly looks like she is not paying attention, her "California Casual" outfit is jeans and a large blue shirt. Buddy and Suzy are being brats pulling faces at Dawn, while Marnie tries on shoes. The background looks pretty tidy there is one plate on a table and a few toys in one corner.
2nd Cover: I think the Barretts look cuter in this cover, Suzy especially, they don't seem as bratty as the first cover. Dawn looks more hassled and the room's a mess including pow chewing up some shoes.
UK cover: Has Dawn picking up a bunch of toys from the floor, no kids in sight, which is more true to the story than the other two cover's that say Dawn is "monster-sitting".

The Baby-Sitters Club #6 Kristy's Big Day
Original Cover: I just love looking at the cover! Karen, Kristy and Andrew look so adorable in yellow dresses and dress pants. I just love the background of this cover a lot.
Collectors' Edition Cover: This newer cover is cute and I just love this version of Andrew a lot. Kristy's bedroom looks so nice.

#7 - Claudia and Mean Janine
Original cover ~ I really dislike Claudia's body language. It looks as if she is doing sign language. Janine looks more nerdy in this cover than the new one. They both look age appropriate. And I guess because it's the BABYSITTERS club, it's good that they put Jackie on the cover. If you notice, most of the original book covers have some client on the cover.
New cover ~ I like the consistency between this cover and Claudia and Crazy Peaches (i.e. the room with the stain-glass windows. I guess it's the dining room?) Claudia and Janine both look pretty on the cover.

#8, Boy Crazy Stacey Don't like Stacey's look too much here...I think it's her hair, makes her look really young. I always thought Claire looked super cute. Wish Scott looked younger--wasn't he 17 in the book? Yeah, does not look it. I don't remember the new cover, I think it's the same?

Yes the Collectors' Edition version is the same image and yes Scott was 17 in the book.

The Baby-Sitters Club #9-"The Ghost At Dawn's House":
Since both covers are identical, I'll describe both as one. I love the way both Jeff and Dawn were pictured on the covers and the outfit that Dawn wore.

#10 - Logan likes Mary Anne!
So Mary Anne looks like a college student on the cover, especially considering her outfit. She looks pretty on the cover though.
I have to mention that when I was a kid, for some reason I thought that they were in a school. I don't know where I got that from (maybe the desk?) But it wasn't until later that I realized they were actually in Jackie's room.
