Isn't it ironic how Lisa and Watson are always described as having a "friendly" divorce but are so rigid when it comes to the custody arrangements? yes.

That has always bothered me. They always seemed friendly towards each other, too, but then Karen would mention that they didn't like coming to the same events, etc. The whole divorce and situation between them raised a lot of questions for me. Unfortunately, there's no way to answer them ;D

stay classy, parents of Stonybrook. If this is an Anchorman reference, I will love you forever. (Um. Platonically.)

It's nice to see Watson and Lisa seeming to make a better effort with having the kids' best interests at heart with the custody as the series progresses. Just read Karen's Surprise and it was awful how they made them have the two Thanksgivings just because both parents "wanted" them. So selfish, in my opinion. I was glad to later read Karen's Movie Star when they all share Thanksgiving together. ;D

I haven't read many of the books (not even half). Are there any other instances of the two families doing things together besides Thanksgiving in Karen's Movie Star ?

Jacob Two-Two, I believe I read that book. And there's a tv show based on it too. I really like Jacob. He's kind of ignored, because he's got two older brothers and two older sisters. Maybe Karen felt slightly ignored, too?

^ I think Karen definitely feels ignored a lot of times and rightly so. Maybe not ignored as much as not as important. I really got that from Karen's Birthday. Nannie's line about "your mother has her job and we have Emily" so can't celebrate together (first of all, made no sense) really gave me this feeling and made me angry with Nannie and feel for Karen. I saw Jacob Two-Two advertised on TV the other day and got all excited thinking of the LS books. ;D

She said Karen's parents have their own, new families now (one of which obviously includes Emily), as a way of showing Karen that bringing them all together for her birthday would be uncomfortable for most, if not all, involved, and would not necessarily work out the way Karen hoped. And Karen finally realizes that after she says it. I can't really come away from that feeling angry with Nannie. She was just telling her the facts in an understanding way.

Agree that Nannie was the most understanding and see how you interpret it differently than I do. I just know how I interpreted it and can see how if Karen saw it the same way, she would feel bad. It's interesting how background/experiences influence our perspective since my parents both read Karen's Bday (I "made" them ;D) and they had very similar ideas to me. ;D I was just glad that the Brewer/Engels finally managed to work out more amicable arrangments by Movie Star. I loved Boo Boo's funeral scene and the thanksgiving dinner they shared. ;D

Boo Boo dies?! Oh no!
My parent's have totally rigid custody agreements with my 13 year old brother, years in advance. Down to times too. It's so no one can change it, cause that is a big inconvenience. That said my parents do NOT get along.

My dad works and travels all the time and can never know his schedule in advance, so we never had a set custody arrangement.

My parents refuse to get a divorce, although they desperately need one. Some of my friends parents, however, had really annoying custody arrangements. There was a time in my life when I had sleepovers a lot, and I also brought friends on vacation with me. There were two friends that could never go though, because of their parents divorce. To me it seemed really unfair.
