I'm pretty sure Uncle Joe was Mal's great-uncle. I remember Claire thinking "great-uncle" meant he was an awesome uncle lol.
Back on topic...my daughter is almost 11 and I have a hard time leaving her home alone for 30 minutes, nevermind baby-sitting! lol

No, Uncle Joe was Mr. Pike's uncle.

I agree with you on the gay thing. I am actually writing a series where I want it to be implied -- but not overtly stated -- that a character is gay.

Thanks Anzuhana, I'll have to read an Uncle Joe book soon. Does that make him Mr. Pike's father's brother?

Doggone it! You're right. He was an uncle, not a grandpa. I need to get my BSC facts straight!!

^I don't think (other than Mr. Papadakises father and that of Mr. Johanssen) there were any Grandfather's in Stoneybrook. I did just read one of Rosie's "friends" say her grandparents lived near Disney World, so maybe if you are not directly involved with or a client of the BSC, that changes the Grandpa factor. I know one of Karen's grandfathe's was alive briefly before dying, but he was still killed off just the same.

Well, I guess logically, it kind of makes sense for there to be more grandmothers than grandfathers, since men tend to die first.
I suppose I just never noticed the whole grandparent thing because my dad's parents both died in the 1970s and my mother's parents were both dead by the time I was in first grade.

^True, it's just that since Stoneybrook was a female dominated place, that stood out for me. My own Grandparents were both very important to me and in my life so that could have been why too. I'm sorry you didn't have of a chance to know your Grandparents, Greer.

I still miss my mom's parents, but my dad was actually closest to an aunt of his who lived with him growing up, and she died when I was in third grade. My dad's parents are kind of an abstract concept for me, if that makes sense. My youngest sibling was born in 2002 and I don't think he thinks my dad ever had parents!

^I can understand that. If your Dad's parents had been gone for that long and depending on what memories he (your Dad) shared with your brother, they could seem from a completely different era aqnd/or non-existent. The only Grandparent I never knew was my biological (I think of my paternal grandmother as "mom") mother's father. I unfortunately knew her mother my maternal "grandmother" all, too well. Let's just say she was not the best of people.

Like Ducky in the California Diaries? Or less ambiguous?
I think it's really just that it was a series written for girls, rather than Scholastic aiming to create an estrogen-filled utopia.

^I am sure that was exactly the reason. As an adult now, the lack of men/boys is just sometimes very obvious. It's like when a new baby is expected (Andrea P, for example) and (at least most of) the sitters don't know the gender. Duh, of course it'll be a girl. That's all I meant. Besides Squirt, it could have been changed up a little.

I think a major difference would be that they would have mobile phones so it wouldn't make a difference where the meetings were held. Also getting in contact with the parents if there was a problem wouldn't be as much hassle.
Also I may be generalising too much but I think they might have trouble getting some kids to play games outside as they want to watch tv/play computer games.

Everyone would know the sex of a coming baby, not just the Felders!
