I couldn't find a thread specifically for this lovely specimen of a man. Feel free to direct me to it if there is one.
Anyway, I went looking for his thread to comment on this:
Look, Ed. We get it. You don't like your ex-wife. However, telling your 13 year old daughter that you don't think it's possible for her to be friends with the guy she pretty casually dated long distance for a few months is a d*ck thing to say. Ed doesn't strike me as the type to have any use for platonic women friends ever.

ed reminds me a lot of my own dad. he owns a business, so he's used to getting things done his way. he doesn't mean to be bossy, it's just how he gets things done. i hate when stacey whines about being a divorced kid -- obviously it's no fun, but half the people she knows have gone through the same thing and life goes on -- but i do feel truly sorry for her when she struggles to make time for her father and he still insists on being a bossy bully. now that i'm older i've been able to tell my dad that treating me like one of his employees doesn't work, and i hope stacey and her dad will come to the same sort of understanding.
also, i never really got the feeling that ed enjoyed spending time with stacey. he was always showing off for her and dropping cash on expensive places, but did they ever actually have a conversation that didn't leave one of them upset? later in the series it seemed like stacey's trips to the city were more about visiting ethan, and then she just slept at her dad's apartment. i know that they are not supposed to be particularly close (especially with stacey being as close as she is with maureen) but they seem to have no relationship at all even when she's there with him. the guy could at least call her every now and then.

^With the exception of Island Adenture, Did Stacey and Ed ever do anything together without any third party (either BSC member or Samantha) along?

^ In Stacey's Broken Heart, they went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In Mystery of Stoneybrook they spend a fun weekend together--shopping, out to brunch, that sort of thing. It's in the first chapter, always been one of my favorite scenes.

It seems like all they ever did was go out to eat or see a show. Not a bad life, but similar to Dawn's Disneyland Daddy.
I got the feeling that he was trying to show her off. Kind of a "Look at me spending time with my daughter because I'm such a great father" sort of thing.

Thanks everyone. Sparklymouse, I think he maybe went into "Stacey the Math Whiz" with good intentions but then that didn't last. ITA about his (mainly) being in "showing off" Stacey mode or "one-upping" Maureen by lavishing expensive gifts on Stacey. I wish there had been moments where he and Stacey simply spent time together at his apartment. I always liked similar scenes with Maureen such as in "Stacey and the Missing Ring."

I really have a hard time liking him for most of the above statements. Your kid shouldn't be just someone that you make time for when it's convenient for you. I think he is a worse disneyland daddy than Dawn's dad.

^As much as I liked Ed in TSB, overall you are very right, Wiggirl. :/ This is sort of O/T but I wonder if he felt Stacey didn't need him (or at least as much) anymore? I say that because in "Kristy and the Sister War," Mrs. Kilbourne makes a point of telling Shannon at the end of the book how she (Mrs. K) will try to make more time for Maria and Tiffany, who need her. There was not one mention that Shannon might also need or want her mom around more. I know 13 in Stoneybrook =adult but that bugged me and could possibly be applied to Stacey/Ed.
