What is your least favorite best friend relationship in the series and why?

I had to pick Mary Anne and Dawn... I just read two Super Specials back to back (Winter Vacation and Island Adventure) and they fought in BOTH of them. They have countless other fights too, but man, that was just... a little much. The Super Special ones were probably the most pointless/unnecessary of the fights, too.

I voted MA & Dawn, too. Their relationship brought out selfishness in both of them- especially MA. They threw fits if the other made any decision without consulting the other.
I also want to say that Mal and and Jessi were definitely the most boring pair, but I'm glad they had each other.

I picked Stacey/Laine because I dislike Laine more than I do any of the other girls.

I picked Jessi and Keisha because I've never read a book that showed a true friendship between them. (Not saying there wasn't such a book, just that I've never come across one.) I'm fine with all the other friendships. Whether I liked the characters or not, I think all of those friendships did have some genuine moments to them.

Despite temptation to say MA and Dawn, (I think it's safe to say all of you know my "why" for that answer ), I picked Kristy and Mary Anne. With the exception of "The Summer Before," I never saw any genuine friendship between K and MA in the series. As Wiggirl said in the MA/Kristy or MA/Dawn thread (sitters section), Kristy really did deserve a better bff or even friend than MA.

^ I would've thought that you would've picked Mary Anne and Dawn but there's nothing wrong with giving an answer that people might not expect.

So I was so close to choosing MA/Dawn but I didn't b/c then what would I have to snark about!!!!
In the end I chose Mal and Jessi b/c I just thought their friendship wasn't real. It seems as the series progressed to just be a friendship of circumstance. Mal needed a BF and Jessi was being discriminated against so bam instant BF. However, I think it really showed later when Jessi went to NY to dance and Mal went away to boarding school that their friendship was not lasting. I guess for me I just feel like once they decided to do different things other than read about horses (what else did they do???) they really had nothing in common to tie them to each other.

^I think you have a good point about Mal and Jessi. Jessi is much less socially awkward than Mal is. Jessi has way more in common with, say, Maritza and Mal with the other bookish girls at Riverbend.
I don't think they'd ever be on BAD terms; they just wouldn't be close friends within a year or two of being separated.

I actually thought of voting for Jessi/Keisha because I'm indifferent to the friendship but I obviously went with Stacey/Laine since I dislike Laine. Maybe I should change my answer to Jessi/Keisha since at least I'm not indifferent to the other friendship pairings.

I picked Dawn and Mary Anne because I feel like if they were not stepsisters they would not be friends at all. They fight in every book.

I think that's pretty common for eleven year olds. There's not a lot of depth to their friendships and they don't last. Stacey and Claudia were like that too. Their friendship was only really based on shallow things like boys and fashion. I think both were good friendships for that time in their lives but I agree that they probably wouldn't have lasted into adulthood. That brings up a question. Which members are the most likely to have a deep, lifelong friendship?

I tried to vote and couldn't, so I don't know if it was my error or if the pole is closed. Anyway, I would choose Stacey and Laine. I feel like a lot of their friendship was based on their *parents'* friendship, and probably wouldn't have lasted much unless their parents interfered. Also, despite her age at the time, Laine's reaction to Stacey's illness wasn't a reaction of a friend at all.

This doesn't seem to be a popular opinion, but I say Kristy and Claudia. I ship them, lol.
Virgo, did you already take the poll? When a poll is made the person has the option of letting people come back and change their answers or have the poll lock after the vote is cast.
