I'm just curious to who you think is the least popular sitter in the series?

I would say Jessi and Mallory. They only got one mystery each and didn't even get portrait collections.

I'm thinking it as a three way tie between Abby, Jessi and Mallory. I picked Jessi and Mallory because they got less books than the older sitters, no portraits and only one mystery book in the mystery series. I also picked Abby because of how late she came into the series. By that time, some people just stopped reading the series or may have just preferred Dawn remaining or Shannon joining.

I think Abby is because she just came too late for people to be accepting of her.

I always liked Mallory and thought she got too few books in the series. I didn't have a problem with Jessi but she wasn't one of my very favorites. However, when Abby came along, it blew my 11-year-old mind. I was kind of outgrowing BSC around that time anyway, so when Dawn left for good and a whole new sitter came in, I pretty much threw my hands up and said, "That's it, I'm done!" My introduction to BSC wasn't until #67, and then I read all the ones before that to catch up, so I didn't really see a whole lot of sitters coming and going. I didn't like all that change going on, and I didn't give Abby a chance until I started reading the series again as an adult. Oddly enough, I have a vague memory of submitting name suggestions for the "Name the new Twin Sitters" contest in the back of the books...

Peppermintraymaker, do you remember what names you submitted?

I remember for sure that they were "C" names, possibly Cassie and Clarissa?

Dawn has always been my least favorite (actually I guess she was one of my favs when I was little just because I am from Cali too), but since an adult not so much! I don't think she qualifies as the fan's least favorite, so I would have to say Abby also - because she came so late in the series. I think unless the person started reading them when she came into play, people don't identify as much with her as the others. They don't have as many fond memories of reading her books. Mallory has always been my third favorite, after Claudia, and MA has always been my favorite.

I'm guessing the sitters with the least books published is the least popular one.

That would be Jessi... if you count Abby, it would be Abby.

I think it could be a three way tie between Abby, Jessi, and Mallory. I personally liked all three, I actually liked all the sitters for various reasons.

^I agree, MsStock. Welcome back, btw. The least popular (favorite) sitter of Ann (and possibly her cohorts as well) was definitely Mal. No one else got riddled with as much buggy, illness, teasing, etc bad luck as poor Mal. Jessi, for me, became a cariacture from almost the beginning. Jessi=ballet. Since, I am not into ballet nor did I care for the way she (sometimes) treated Mal, I (overall) could do without Jessi. I know a big part of that is not her "fault" just my wishing she had at least waited a year or two to come to CT to (maybe) allow Mal an opportunity to shine even a little bit as both a sitter and character. Abby, was more of last-gasp attempt at keeping the series going. I think Ann and Co would have accomplished that much better had they (as others have said) replaced Dawn with the Shillaber Twins. I think doing that might have allowed, a return to the beginning of the series of sorts and in its own way a sort of prequel.

I'm curious as to why Mal was Ann's least favorite sitter and to how she became that way.

To be fair we don't know if that's true. Mal was already the stereotypically "dorky" character--loved doing well in school, glasses and braces, unruly hair--so it probably seemed easier to keep piling on her.

^Probably, BooBoo. Plus as I've said elsewhere, Ann and Co may not wanted to "risk" giving one of the main girls "bad luck" (the older sitter might lose appeal, BSC books lose sales if that happened), so that left Mal or Jessi. Based on the two characters initially it was easier to stick with poor Mal.
