I don't know if this has been discussed before, but it always hits you in the face. In the back of the new series books, it says, "The Best Friends You'll Ever Have"! Does anyone else think this is terribly condescending on Scholastic's part? Couldn't they have put a different phrase, or at least phrased it in a different way? It makes it sound like kids who read BSC don't have friends. And although it may be true, the wording always bothered me

I thought it sounded like the BSC was better than your friends.

Bwahaha. Yes!!! I thought that, too. Either way, it's kind of harsh.

^I did, too, BooBoo. I also thought the way chapter 2's, especially, (but really the entire books) were worded made it sound like we were being given priviliged info of years ago. I still say sometimes I got the impression the girls had (magically) aged and were simply sharing parts of their childhood with "us." Sort of like we were checking out articles at the Stoneybrook Historical Society or something! I wonder how the books might have been different if Ann and Co, wrote them in a more "present" tone. I guess if that happened, the aging issue might have been more murky.

Haha, well, I didn't have friends as a kid, so it applied to me. That is why I made my blog's tagline "The best friends you'll never have." ;D

^ LOL greer. I don't think you meant for that to be funny, but your post made me laugh. I must be psychic (well I am a bit) because I had a feeling you'd say something snarky and was looking forward to it

They were pretty great friends. We hung out whenever and wherever I wanted to.

I thought it sounded like the BSC was better than your friends. This is what I thought too. Like "hey your own friends will never measure up to these girls so buy more books so at least you can imagine you have great friends" Although honestly I would not have wanted all of the BSC as my friends.

I thought it sounded like the BSC was better than your friends. That's how it always felt to me. But I didn't mind... the BSC IS better than my friends. I don't know if the BSC girls would have liked me if I went to SMS with them. Ah, well... lol.
