I enjoy the mysteries as well, they had some really good plots.

I felt sorry for Stacey too and got so angry with Claudia for suspecting her! Some best friend she is! She was even looking through Stacey's things!
Not too bad of a book...not my favourite either.

I'm another one that likes the mystery series. I loved them because they were different from the series...and never read any of the Super Mysteries so downloaded the ebooks from Amazon whenever I can afford them. Luckily they aren't expensive!

Just finished this one and couldn't help feeling sorry for Stace. Although there were WAY too many coincidences in this book for my liking. A diamond ring just happened to go missing the night Stacey was babysitting after she'd been bitching non stop about her mother not buying one for her ... and the Gardellas, who knew their cat had a habit of hiding things around the house, didn't even think of looking in all his hiding places. Also, the Gardellas didn't end up actually telling anyone about the "theft", it just happened to be a quiet period for the BSC. Also, WTF was up with Claudia searching Stacey's room?! Nice. I also just re-read this and agree with all your points and even saw them as a kid. My first thought now is; if they really think she stole the ring, why the heck do they take her offer her baby-sit again for free to pay for the ring (even with a friend)? If you think someone is untrustworthy, you do NOT leave them with your child, which should be far more valued than your jewelry. Especially an infant who can't tell you what happened when you were gone. Also what's to stop them from thinking that Stacey and Kristy plotted to sneak the ring back in the house and plant the scene to make it look like the 'cat did it' so they could get the BSC could get their reputation back and make themselves look like heros for figuring it out?

This book was OK ... as with Miles's earlier books (Middle School Mystery the exception with a strong story and good ending) I thought the characters were pretty well written but the plot is kind of meh and the resolution feels pretty anticlimactic and even a little bit like cheating (the other clients just had other things to do or were somehow on vacations, Stacey and Claudia reconcile off-page, there were other places the Gardellas hadn't looked in). I don't think friends must have absolute confidence in each other so Claudia's actions didn't bother me much (also, because it was written from Stacey's viewpoint, the other friends (especially Mallory) may have also had some suspicions).

I really tried to enjoy this book but it was very disappointing! This one kind of reminds me of M #6 where there isn't really much of a mystery. Also, I don't know why it bothers me that Kristy is featured more prominently on a Stacey cover, haha.

Read it yesterday. In the end Stacey almost gets what she wants...her parents are thinking of "going in together" to get her the ring for a special occasion. I hope they didn't...lol. A thirteen year old doesn't need a diamond! The game Jessi and Becca played when she sat for her and Squirt was so cute and simple: look for a missing object in a room. Ah, the good old days. If Becca was growing up now her eyes would be glued to a screen

I was obsessed with having things with my birthstone on it when I was a kid. Luckily, mine was amethyst. Still, I never got anything with REAL amethyst on it. Just lots of things with purple gemstones. I think April now officially has a second stone associated with it, probably for this very reason. Still, I don't see why they couldn't have gotten Stacey a cubic zirconian ring or something. It's not like she'd be able to tell the difference haha Then for her 16th birthday or something, they could take it to a jeweller's, swap out the stone for a real diamond, and maybe add something to the ring to commemorate the occasion and not make Stacey suspicious haha

I feel like you can find diamond jewelry fairly cheaply these days. Not, like, high quality engagement rings, but pendants or stud earrings and stuff. Something appropriate for a teenager. I'm having a hard time picturing what kind of ring she even wanted. My birthstone is garnet, which is the ruby's budget cousin. I didn't care about my birthstone at all.

Haha so true. Simple rings with a single small stone of low-quality can't be that crazy expensive. I guess for some reason whenever I read this book (and until just now), I was always picturing like, an engagement ring sized rock haha

What I remember most about this mystery is that it was one of the more plausible mysteries.

It was more plausible then some of the others. The newer ones got really outrageous.

I kinda like how outrageous the later ones got. This was almost too mundane. I think my favourite mystery overall though will always be #2 "Beware Dawn!"
