P.S.S. One "hidden gem," of sorts about DM. Kristy tells us DM is digging up a corner of the backyard where he is convinced treasure lies. Does he ever do this again? Not sure if he ever does it again, but this reminded me of Super Special #1, in which DM & the Pike boys hunt everywhere for treasure using the "treasure map" they find. The scene in "Kristy & the Vampires" made me wonder if DM never lost interest in that, and just kept hunting for treasure from then on. I think, so far, this is the most boring BSC book I have read. I wasn't really interested in the movie set. I did like reading about Cokie though, she's one of my favourite minor characters.

^I loved that subplot of Baby sitter's on Board, Snakebracelet. I recently read "Karen's Brothers." In that book. Karen tells us that she, Nancy, and Hannie spend one recess a week digging for arrowheads at Stoneybrook Academy because Linny told Hannie years ago Indians had lived in town. I wish that had somehow been connected back to DM and that he and the Pike boys had remained friends in Stoneybrook. :)Thanks for the reminder to go re-read SS1, one of my very favorite SS's.

^ my friends and i used to dig for arrowheads on the playground too, and i've actually found a few over the years. there were a lot of native settlements in this area.

^That is very cool, Oldhickory! In one of my favorite non BSC books. "Comfort and Joy," Bobby, one of the main characters he is 8 has quite an arrowhead and also rock collection. I think in one or more Bobbsey Twins book they also collect arrowheads. I used to have a rock collection of sorts though most were bought. Some day it might be fun to start over.

I find it funny how several people in this thread are complaining about how it was stupid for Sam to tag along to the set early in the morning and then decide to immediately go take a nap by third base while waiting for someone to wake him up when things get interesting, because now I'm picturing him falling asleep for the entire summer, with no one noticing, since I don't think he's mentioned again in the book.
Is the movie Little Vampires mentioned again in any future books? I think it would have been cool if they had mentioned the BSC and/or kids getting together around Halloween to watch it together on TV. I did like the creepy Halloween-in-a-small-New-England-town feel that they made it sound the movie had, so it would have been cool if this book had been set around Halloween (although I understand it makes more sense for it to take place in another season).
And in response to some of the earlier discussions - I don't think it's weird that Derek's stunt double was an adult woman. I don't have any sources to quote off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure it's common for adult women to be the stunt doubles for children. (Because stunt doubles are usually adults for legal and safety reasons, and of course it would be easier to find short and petite women than short and petite men. Kinda like how women usually played the role of Peter Pan on stage.)

I'm thinking it's not very surprising that there was sabotage going on when literally anyone who felt like it was just allowed to wander all over the set for no reason, without anyone knowing or caring who they were.

Them coming together to watch it on TV would have been cute. I'm sure it would have been an "event" in Stoneybrook. I actually have always liked that the book is set in the summer because it makes me think of being young in the summertime and anticipating the fun things to come in the fall YES, even as a kid I thought it was weird how they were able to sneak in and out of the stars' trailers.

I thought this book was pretty fun, as a kid I loved going behind-the-scenes and I still like it. The culprit is somewhat obvious but the other suspects are interesting enough. There was an interesting way to work in Cokie into the plot and it was funny though wrong for Kristy and Claudia to be trashing her at her own party. I mentioned that some of Miles's books had so-so endings but in Mystery #14 and 15 the endings were the best parts . Kristy getting a clue and putting things together, then running to the latest crime, stopping it, being suspected and directly, publicly accusing real perpetrator (who then incriminates herself by confessing under pressure), really dynamic.

Another boring mystery! And this time it isn't a Dawn one. I' up to chapter three...I do like mysteries in general, but good mysteries (I am a huge Nancy Drew fan) but there's only been a few mysteries I've read so far that I've liked. Hopefully it picks up because I really want to read the next one.

The girls aren't good at making a list of suspects.
Why would Carson risk his career trying to hurt Derek? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. And his agent wouldn't risk his career either by getting Carson involved.
Same goes for the prop master Zeke. Incidents happened while he was there so why would he risk his job to hurt a kid? So their justification of him being a suspect was wrong.
