I thought that Kristy got lucky since she got to see the book fall out from Lindsey's backpack. It was obvious that Lindsey was behind it since she was obsessed with Carson.

The intro of this is so annoying with Kristy, David Michael, and Emily Michelle complaining how hot it is...why are you having lunch outside then, geniuses?!

^So we could roll our eyes and laugh at them? Good question. Maybe another "question" is if it truly was that hot, what was Mary Anne doing riding her bike all the way to Kristy's?

I am re-reading and so far like this one. (Part of the reason could be because I skipped over 4-5 books before to get to it, just because those--Kristy and the Copycat, Jessi's Horrible Prank, among others, hold no interest for me. ITA agree with whoever said it was crazy that Kristy and Claud were hired to baby-sit, wouldn't that be illegal in real life, especially for a 4-year old? I also wish this had been a regular book minus the "mystery" and we had gotten to see more of the movie and read about the Stoneybrook premiere live. Something that made me lol was at the very beginning Kristy notices how Derek has "sprouted up 4 inches and is now gangly." Bear with me, with the below explanation, I promise there is a "point." The BSC first meet Derek at the very beginning of their 2nd tour of 8th grade. "Jessi and the Superbrat." They next see him a year/year and half later in "CA Girls" (probably during the Spring of their 3rd year of 8th grade) They don't see him again until half way through 8th grade year 5, in "The Mystery at Claudia's House." This book is the second summer book before 8th grade, year 7, during the Summer of 1993. Thus almost a full 5 years have past (would have passed in real life) since the Fall of 1988 (Superbrat). Derek should be 12 and (in the Fall) starting 7th grade. Of course, that would mean Kristy and Co. "should be" 17 (or about to turn 17 for Kristy and MA) and in 12th grade in the Fall. Looking at it that way, of course a "12 year old" Derek would have grown up and taller!

Love the timeline for Derek! I had just a weird question about this one. Did anyone think it was odd that the Carson guy had kept Lindsey's flowers from everyday on the set and the cards she gave him? It made it seem to me like he might have been in on it. They made him seem like a guy that would have thrown that stuff out b/c he was so stuck on himself. Other than that, I loved reading about making movies! I could have done without Claire being scared. How stupid must she have looked in her witch costume!

^It was an almost reference to a younger character aging while an older one didn't. Maybe Carson kept all the roses and weird notes because he was so conceited. That daily "flattery" added to his already huge ego or something? Otherwise, the only thing I can think of is since he (probably) knew who they were from and didn't reciprocate Lindsay's feelings, he tossed everything aside and that was it. If this was the case, ITA tha the logical response would have been to throw it out. I doubt Lindsay would come snooping in his trailer's trash and be angry by what she found. Although, she was creepy enough to do so. Lol, that would have been a "twist." "A former idol of Carson's turned bitterly angry after discovering her discarded 'presents' to the star."

Perhaps he wanted them for evidence for a restraining order.

This might sound "mean," but I'm not sure Carson was smart enough to think of that. It definitely does make sense.

what age is carson supposed to be? cokie likes him so obviously he's at least 13 (i can't see cokie paying any attention to someone younger), but his character is friends with derek's character so i feel like he should only be a couple of years older than derek. but he acts like he's way older. i personally see him in my head as 18ish but that just doesn't seem right.
did anyone else think it was interesting that derek's stunt double was a grown woman? she would have to be really small to be able to pass for an eight year old boy. there is a big difference between petite bodies and children's bodies. i guess it makes more sense than using a grown man as a stunt double though.

^I thought Carson was supposed to be 17? Though from my memories of teen magazines, the "hot guys" featured were (generally) 14-16 weren't they? Oh I know they had some "older" like Tom Cruise and Patrick Swayze, I just meant in general. Yes! I thought it was a little creepy actually that Cheryl was Derek's stunt double. I get the intended message (a good one) was to show that women can be stunt doubles. I just agree that no matter how small and compact Cheryl might have been she wasn't an 8 year old boy. Plus, Kristy makes a deal out of telling us how much Derek has grown since she last saw him. Lol, Derek is the only person I know who manages to grow a few inches taller without ever aging.

I picked this one out of my lot yesterday because I remember the summer scene at the beginning where Kristy complains of a hot and boring summer. I didn't remember much about this book except that. Actually, it was pretty decent.
In my first year of university, I worked for the show Queer as Folk so I know a bit about TV and movie sets. A lot of things wouldn't fly on real sets. For example, gaggles of babysitters wouldn't be allowed on set. It seemed like anyone in Stoneybrook could wander wherever they wanted. In reality, things would be more strict - the producers don't want leaks or spoilers out there, right?!
Also, why did Derek need a sitter down his throat at all times? Those things don't usually happen on sets, they hire people to assist or do things like that. Kristy also gushed over Derek which I thought was interesting. It started to get annoying how many times she said he was a good actor or how he wasn't conceited. I, personally, would have preferred Derek as a snobby, meaner character because it would have made him more interesting and diverse, unlike most of the BSC clients who are "angels" (or almost!)
Anyone else think that "Kristy and the Little Vampires" would have been a better title for this!?

I like the contrast between Derek and Carson and how Derek is friendlier and and takes his acting seriously, but yeah, Kristy's gushing was a little much.
I always crack up at Claudia calling the movie "Baby Dracula."

^Aw, I like the sound of the title being Kristy and the Little Vampires, makes it more endearing. Not that I 'm a vampire fan, but you know. That's cool you actually worked on a set Virgo. To me one of the oddest parts of this was always 15 year old Sam waking up at the crack of dawn to supposedly take a nap outside on the school grounds--IIRC by the baseball diamond. How weird is that?!
