It has to be this one (too), because I've never read Jessi's Big Break, but I HAVE read this subplot ;D

Yes, the subplot in this one is Becca being whiny about everyone "abandoning" her, which shows up again in Jessi's Big Break. And speaking of repeats, Jessi is also worried about having a "talk" with Quint in Big Break too. Were the writers so bored with Jessi that they had to dredge up old plot points?
I actually don't mind this mystery. I liked reading about Jessi and Stacey in the city together, but yeah, it was a bit much that Jessi and Quint were just roaming the streets by themselves, tailing two strangers. But I did like that they weren't actually working with the police or whatever. They were just being kids with over-active imaginations. After following the guys into the jewelry store, they don't know what else to do.

^ I liked reading about Jessi and Stacey, too, and found the plot kind of cute. I also liked Jessi's "talk" with Quint and how she decided she didn't need a boyfriend as those were my feelings too at that age. I do always get this one confused with Big Break, though, because of all the similarities. I used to be extremely annoyed by Becca but now feel a little bad for her since she's suffering from some major separation anxiety. I'm lucky my parents never left me as a kid when they went places. ;D I can't imagine how I would have reacted - not exactly like Becca but I would have been very upset.

^ My parents went on a couple of trips with my sister and me, and I did have separation anxiety for a few days, but even I was never as upset as Becca. I really couldn't stand her while re-reading this one, mostly because I'd read Jessi's Big Break right before it and was bothered by the ghostwriters recycling plots. Or maybe because I'm mean.

^ I think the plot recycling was what bothered me the most because I also read both books really close together. And having a problem and reading about it are two different things - I have to really look at the situation and say "I did that too" or I tend to get annoyed more easily. ;D

^ I bet Dawn would be happy about all the plot recycling.

I thought it was cool when Jessi and Stacey said something at the same time and they go "Owe me a coke," Do people actually do this or is it something the BSC made up? 'cause I usually just say jinx

^ I haven't heard that one, either, but I have heard ones other than jinx. I think lots of people make up their own. I like the dolls, ring dings. ;D

My ex and I would do "jinx - owe me a coke" and then the person couldn't talk until they bought the other a coke. I think we got it from the office though. And neither of us drink coke, so ... there was lots of wasted cokes.

i thought it was funny they also made it a point to say that they would give Stacey a diet coke, but hmm.. yeah maybe i should start to get more creative with my jinxes... haha

I found that funny too (like we need a reminder, though!).
I really enjoy the mysteries and I think it sucks that Jessi only gets one, and it has such a cop-out ending. I still like it, but it's not the same as a 'real' mystery, like the others girls got.
Mostly I like it for the NY excursions and the Stacey and Jessi interactions. I don't think we ever got to see much of Stacey and Jessi only interaction through the series, did we? Maybe that's why their interactions together felt a little awkward in this book.

I remember getting more and more worried when I first read this one, because I thought Jessi and Quint were close to some real criminals and in actual danger, but the conclusion made me laugh out loud. I like how they ran into "Red" at the end, though. He seemed like a nice guy. I wonder if anybody else overheard the rehearsing.
