I found that funny too (like we need a reminder, though!). I really enjoy the mysteries and I think it sucks that Jessi only gets one, and it has such a cop-out ending. I still like it, but it's not the same as a 'real' mystery, like the others girls got. Mostly I like it for the NY excursions and the Stacey and Jessi interactions. I don't think we ever got to see much of Stacey and Jessi only interaction through the series, did we? Maybe that's why their interactions together felt a little awkward in this book. I also loved the Stacey/Jessi interactions and wish there would have been more of those. I liked Stacey's relationship with Mal, too. I think the younger girls really looked up to Stacey and all of the older ones, which made their interactions more interesting. Also wish Jessi would have gotten more mysteries. Mallory too, even though I didn't love this one or Ghost Cat, either.

^maybe they never gave the girls anymore mysteries because they weren't very good detectives... Jessi's ended up being a cop-out and didn't Mallory's end up being partly unsolved at the end with the ghost cat?

I wonder if anybody else overheard the rehearsing. And I wonder if they automatically jumped to the same conclusion that Jessi and Quint did. I never did understand that- it's such a stretch to believe a couple of your neighbours are planning a jewel heist. Why did they never question the fact that these guys were discussing their supposed robbery plan with the window wide open and at the top of their lungs? I know they needed a reason for the 'mystery' to begin, but it seemed to be at the expense of Jessi's intelligence. ^maybe they never gave the girls anymore mysteries because they weren't very good detectives... Jessi's ended up being a cop-out and didn't Mallory's end up being partly unsolved at the end with the ghost cat? Or maybe the fact that they were younger than the other BSC girls? Having thirteen-years-old constantly in danger is already so much of a 'WTF?'; it'd be so much worse with eleven-year-olds. Maybe that's why they got the tame mysteries. Thinking about it, is that why Jessi and Mal were conveniently cut off from the photo that prompted the events of 'Baby-sitters Beware'? That mystery was much scarier than many others and I think if Jessi and Mal had been targeted too, it would have been even more frightening.

^ i think that's a good point about the ages, except that jessi and mallory do help out with the mysteries, and have chapters in the super mysteries. do they ever do any real crime-solving/investigating in the other mysteries or super mysteries though?

I assumed it was because the Mysteries didn't sell as well as the regular series, and mal and Jessi's books didn't sell as much in the regular series, so they figured they wouldn't even try. It's all about the numbers. ...
It drives me crazy that there isn't any real logical order to which sitter has the next book, btw. AND mal and jessi have less books, period, and that shannon got one special edition and logan got two. It's just annoying. It seems like first the sort of cycled through the sitters - kristy, claudia, stacey, mary anne, dawn, kristy, claudia, stacey... then dawn, mary anne (okay, so they switched those two up), kristy, claudia, stacey, ... mallory? Dawn, Jessi, Mary Anne,.. and then stacey? Claudia? There is no order! I hate it!

^ I think that's a good theory about why no more mysteries for Mal and Jessi. Still makes me mad. ;D I think they were just as good of detectives in the other books and my favorite BSC book is kind of a mystery - Mal and the Mystery Diary. Also like Dance School Phantom (but mostly for Priscilla and the pet show, I guess ;D) That also drives me crazy about no logical order. I like order in life and things like this bug me.... I've noticed it a lot, anyway, the last few days because my new way to put myself to sleep has been to list the books by sitter in order and it is not easy because they aren't consistent....

^i've tried counting the books before i go to bed. I usually get to 15 before i either forget what comes next or doze off. ;D Mostly I like it for the NY excursions and the Stacey and Jessi interactions. I don't think we ever got to see much of Stacey and Jessi only interaction through the series, did we? Maybe that's why their interactions together felt a little awkward in this book. I thought their interactions were a bit awkward too. It kind of bugged me that Jessi was staying with Stacey and yet didn't even bother to tell her about the mystery until almost the end of the book.

^ That showed me that Jessi kind of viewed Stacey as an "adult" and we know how the BSC is about telling adults about their involvement in mysteries. ;D

I thought their interactions were weird in that they both treated each other like adults. Stacey was perfectly willing to let Jessi run off by herself in the city, while she lunched with her father at Tavern on the Green. It just seemed weird to me -- whenever I brought friends with me places, we usually at least ate meals together.
I don't know. Plus it was weird that Stacey and Jessi were hanging out together, alone.

was jessi in the city just to visit quint?

They do a lot of the library research and stakeouts, I think, but I don't think they were ever in direct danger like the other girls. Stacey was held hostage and nearly hit by a car in BB, Abby struggled with the criminals in 'Fright Night', Kristy was in danger towards the end of 'Mystery Train' and the villain guy in 'Cat Burglar' posed a threat to several of the older girls. What about Jessi and Mal? They've always been absent from the dangerous parts of the mysteries, if I remember rightly. When the girls were waiting for the counterfeiter in Mystery #10, wasn't Jessi the one who had to take Charlotte home, and miss out on the action? I know nothing dangerous happened, but waiting for a determined counterfeiter isn't exactly a trip to the ice cream store either. Plus it was weird that Stacey and Jessi were hanging out together, alone. I know! I mean, I liked that the book had interactions between them, just because there wasn't much of it in other books and it was interesting to see, but there was still just this feeling that it wasn't quite right.

Did anyone notice the Superbowl ad yesterday with James Carville and Bill Frist? They were on one of those political talk shows and then both said something at the same time. Pause. Bill Frist says "Jinx! Buy me a Coke!" At first I thought I didn't hear right, but had to rewind it, and sure enough... LOL!

I agree about it being stupid that Jessi didn't tell Stacey, something was definately off with their friendship in this one. It was like Stacey was an adult.
