OMG... don't get me started on that. I work the children's section of a B&N and this is my biggest pet peeve at work. I don't have the time or energy to make sure the kids left in the secion are all right what with all the shelving, customer service, cleaning up the merch, etc. And if I notice a kid gone that was once sitting there alone- I assume the parent collected him. How am I to know?(And when we confront the parents they always seem so shocked we would get in a snit over it : And the fact that the store is smack in the middle of midtown Manhatten seems to mean NOTHING to these people. And, yeah, I remember when I was a kid reading this being blown away by the rediculousness of having a 13 year old kid run a register or an 11 year old tearing a ticket. And I remember thinking if it were me I'd be REALLY upset that I wasn't getting paid for it. If it were me I woulda told my parents and made a BIG STINK out of being carted around as free labor. Oh well, lol- gotta love the realism of mysteries.

^ This book is another reason that I ignore the ages and think of the BSC as much older. ;D I haven't read this one for a while. When does it take place in the year? I was thinking January but might be wrong.

I just reread this one, and I think it's odd that they keep referring to Mara as a "kid" even though she's older than Mal and Jessi.

^ Never thought of that. Was she 12? Then again, Mal and Jessi are older in my mind so that's probably why I didn't notice.

I noticed that too, last time I read it. I just wrote it off, hoping it was a mistake.

Yeah, she's 12, so she's right between the sitters, agewise.

I loved this book. Everything about it was interesting to me- Stacey’s working experiences, the three poor kids, the embezzlement plot. Of course, it was totally unrealistic, and not only for the fact that the sitters were basically being used as free labor (this was NOT a simple volunteer project, and they were only 11-13!), but also because Stacey was able to figure out and understand what was going on so perfectly in the end. All the sitters seemed particularly “old” in this book, what with their understanding so many things about business and acting in such a professional manner. True, they do have their own baby-sitting business, but still…at their age, I wouldn’t have even thought about half the things they brought up. But that’s the BSC for you. Really, I enjoyed how professional they all seemed, as it allows me to picture them being closer to my age. This may actually be one of my favorite BSC books.

^ Books like this always make me think of them as older, too. ;D I always just skim over and ignore the references to age in the BSC books. ;D

I love this book too. When I was a kid I thought working at the mall seemed pretty glamorous because of this book, haha ;D

^ It's not? Of course, I still would like to work as a waitress (something about the chaos ;D) so always enjoyed reading about Logan at the Rosebud. ;D

I think I wouldn't mind Claudia's or Mal's jobs, even now A toy store, probably not, and a movie usher, no way. ;D

^ I would love a toy store or Mal's, probably not Claud's since I have no interest in art and would hate MA's job. Logan's would probably be my favorite - or Kristy's. ;D

I worked in a toy store in high school. It was horrible. I had never been so happy to hear silence until after a 4 hour shift working there. It paid well, but it just was not a terribly interesting job.
I don't remember what Mary Anne's job was. I would hate Logan's job. I hate food service, it's one of the most demeaning, disgusting jobs there around.
