None of my relatives who smoked ever got cancer and they lived to be in their 70s and 80s, but maybe they would have lived even longer if they hadn't smoked

I've never smoked, and I don't plan on starting. Mainly because I think it's gross, but also because my dad is a doctor - a pathologist, to be exact - and he spends a lot of his time diagnosing people with lung cancer. I did the Take Your Kid to Work day (like Stacey in this book!) and I went with my dad. I saw a cancerous lung up close. If I wasn't already a non-smoker, the sight of that lung would've done the trick. Anyway, I just finished this one and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Yes, it was pretty much Dance School Phantom all over again, and it was so obvious who the culprit was, but it was still enjoyable. I really liked how Stacey wasn't singled out and was glad she wasn't named Princess Bellair. I also liked that Cokie was in it, even though I never thought of her as a model. I think it's kind of funny how she gets the raw end of the deal sometimes - her agent preferring Blaine over her, and giving everyone food posioning in the Vampire mystery. Things just seem to go wrong for her sometimes. Karma, perhaps? I liked the smoke-out plot. I agree that Buddy's line about the movies making smoking look cool was pretty lame, but other than that, it was fun to read about. I think overall, despite the major plot recycling, this was one of the better mysteries.

I agree with all of this and also always love Cokie in the books. She adds some good comedy. ;D Glad to see I’m not the only one who really likes this subplot and would never smoke. I always was shocked that Lindsey and Buddy were experimenting but I guess this is realistic and the message in the end was good. Don’t remember Buddy’s line but I probably just overlooked it because I liked the message behind it.

I loved the cigar funeral, especially the mysterious way Watson asked everybody to dress up at breakfast. I couldn't help imagining what must have been going through the family's heads that morning. I also liked the subplot about Cynthia. It's too bad she and Stacey couldn't have kept in touch in another book. I also really enjoyed reading this book while waiting for America's Next Top Model to start next month. "The camera loves you"

^ It's been a while since I've read this one. Is Cynthia the model who wanted to give up her career to be normal? I don't remember much about her but remember liking her too. ;D

That's her Stacey wonders how Cynthia will deal with boys like Alan Gray if she goes back to school. OT, but I love your signature! The phantom clients

^ Thanks. Glad to see that so many people get it. ;D Who were those people, anyway? ;D

^ Thanks. ;D I was considering misspelling Claud's but didn't know if that would make it more confusing. "Hello Mom and Dad, who are you?" "I licked the brown dog." and some of the other classic Claudia misspellings come to mind. ;D

I was thinking about rereading this one and was skimming it, and a name I'd never really noticed before caught my eye - Cynthia Rowlands. She's one of the models that is sixteen and wants to quit modeling and go back to school. I wonder if this name choice had anything to do with Cynthia Rowley, the fashion designer?

I've had 2 grandfathers die because of lung cancer...and they both smoked. To quote my choir director...I've thought about trying smoking but I can't get into it.

This book could have had potential. The beginning wasn't too bad but the way the mystery was solved was horrible! Stacey tells the BSC, "I think I know who did it!" and then two pages later they catch Harmony writing on the mirror in the bathroom.
LAME!

^What I couldn't understand was why Harmony didn't check the stalls to make sure they were empty before she started writing. Like, four are occupied, and she just walks in and starts writing. Kinda careless, but maybe by then she was sort of hoping to get caught...

I liked the Stacey and Cokie interaction. I liked that Stacey wasn't named Princess Bellair. I wonder how Mrs. McGill newer found out what was going on. I did like the subplot. I loved the cigar funeral.
