Read this again recently and noticed the "Take Your Daughter to Work" thing in the beginning. At my school it was "Take Your Child to Work" day. Did anyone else do this and what was it called for you?

Did anyone else do this and what was it called for you? My school didn't do it, but my dad's work did. It was sponsored by the Ms. Foundation, so no boys allowed. It looks like it changed to include both boys and girls in 2003: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Take_Our_Daughters_and_Sons_to_Work_Day

i just reread, and i noticed this time that all the models are said to smoke (there are constant references to "cigarettes and diet soda" as a meal), but aren't all the models like 15 and 16? does nobody notice that all these underage teenage girls are smoking? it annoys me that it is written this way to serve the anti-smoking plot.

^Since I never cared much for this book, I usually pass over it in re-reads. I didn't even get into the Stoneybrook Smoke-Out, seemed way too random. But wow you are so right! Surely someone would smell the smoke on them or see them smoking.

How did they get the cigarettes? Another Stoneybrook mystery of the seedy underworld and underage smoking. I did like that Stacey wasn't the princess too. I liked the smokeout subplot more than the plot I think. I really feel like a Mallory b/c I really hate modeling and the perfect person that we are all supposed to be. I wish that it would be more realistic and I never understood why people think a stick figure is beautiful. Sigh....my own personal demons strike but I just wish the fashion industry would realize that the average women is not a size 2!

^ITA. When I was a little older than Stacey, a few people suggested I model as way of earning some extra money. I thought about it for a little while, thinking it might be "easy $" but never did go for it. I don't care for pageants or even the models on Deal or No Deal which you know is what sells the show.

Plot. Wasn't to crazy about it. I remember, I want be in fashion model. But, i was too young at the time. To walk the runaway. My older sister did. One year. While, my mom stayed with her. My dad took me outside. we walk around. Until it was time to leave. Now, theirs little kids doing fashion models. young as 1. I think, that's ridiculous.
Sub-Plot is good lesson. But, how many adults will stick of not never smoking again? I don't smoke. Smoke bothers my breathing. I'm glad restaurants in MI. has ban from smoking in their restaurants & bars. I remember 3 years ago. Will be in non-smoking section. We could still smell smoke from the smoke area. I was happy when they ban smoking in restaurants. My family can breathe easier. When, I was between 10-12 years old. My friend & I, saw lit cigarette on the ground. Can't remember, what happen next. But, were like woo, lit cigarette. I think, she picked it up. I was like don't smoke it. I don't think she did. Then, she just crush it on her shoes. we left do go some where's else. My memory is very fade. So, I don't much about what really happen.
I heard in movies they use fake cigarettes. That's someone told me before.

Just rereading this one now.
Abby snorted. “Obviously, you want your baby-sitters to come up with a fun activity. All right, then, here it is.” She leaned over and whispered into Jessi’s ear. Jessi smiled and nodded and whispered back.
Augh! Maybe, just maybe, Abby, the kids DON'T want a fun activity. Sometimes kids just want to watch tv, read a book, not do anything. Babysitting does not always have to be an activity.

^Lol, Helen, I "hear" your anger, though I agree (and not just because I do not like Abby). I know I'm one of the few regulars on here that enjoys most of the sitting and "event" chapters. That said, there were times such as this one and when Claudia was pushing doing an art project on the Barrett-DeWitts when they were all content with their own activities, that I wished one of the charges had said "thanks but no thanks, at least not right now."

Had there ever been mention before of Watson smoking?

^ Not that I can recall. I think this is the only book where it was mentioned where Watson smoked.

Then it really was as random as it seems!
