I got 1 ear pierced and that was just because I was forced to. They kept saying, it won't hurt, it won't hurt, but just bite on this book. I did and it DID hurt. They just basically stirred a thin needle in rubbing alcohol, held my ear lobe against a square piece of wood and then jammed it through. I was pissed the whole night, squeezing that lobe between tons of tissue. Oh, I cringe just reading that! I got mine done at a store with the little gun thing and that hurt bad enough ;D

Same here, mine were done when I was a baby. I've let the holes close several times over the years, though, got them re-pierced, but finally decided to forget it. I guess earrings are just my least favorite type of jewelry!

I got my ears pierced when I was 8 and second holes when I was sixteen. I always admired dawn's second holes... Um yeah. But now I hardly ever wear earrings.
What do you guys think of stretched holes? I have tons of friends whose ears are stretched a little bit but I could never do it.

I personally don't think they're very attractive, but even if I did, I don't think I'd ever do it, because...what do you do when you're tired of them? Or want to work in a conservative office?

^ This is a really dumb question but what are stretched holes? They sound painful ;D

^^Stretched holes happen when you wear earrings that are too heavy. They pull down on the lobes and stretch the holes, so the earrings won't sit properly. It happened to my sister. She had to get a little stitch in her lobe to fix the hole.
My dad wouldn't let any of us get our ears pierced (said it made us look cheap). So I waited until I was in college, and my sister and I got them done at the same time. We kind of didn't mention it to him that we had them done. I don't think he noticed.
Here's a question, and I apologize if it's been mentioned previously--in which book(s) does it mention Mal and Jessi playing horses?

-shudder- Stretched holes creep me out so much. Esp when you can see through the "earring" they have in. I hate them. They look so painful.

ringdings, I think in Mallory and the Ghost Cat Mal says that she and Jessi play horses but it's a "deep dark secret."

I never wore hoops or anything other than little posts because getting stretched holes sounded so painful. Back to the topic of Mal and Jessi, did both get their ears pierced and was that consistent through the whole series? I know MA went back and forth depending on what book it was in.

^^Thanks, sugarmonkey. That explains why I don't remember it. Ghost Cat was one of my least favorite books, and I've only read it maybe twice.
I don't know if stretched ears are painful, since it happens gradually. But my earrings are generally on the small side. No feathers or anything wild.
I think Mal and Jessi's pierced ears are consistent throughout the series since they've had them done, but sometimes the ghostwriters switch the number of holes in Claudia and Dawn's ears. Dawn has two in each ear, and Claudia has two in one ear, and one in the other, right?

I think stretched holes look gross. I hate the see-through earrings too, sotypical.

I got my ears pierced when I was 11. I'd always wanted them pierced, especially after that Full House episode, but was never really crazy about it. When my cousin who's a year older than me got hers pierced I began to really want them. Actually, my mom got her ears pierced for the first time with me, when she was 37! And my grandmother, her mother, doesn't have pierced ears. It's not a cultural or religious thing or anything, they just never got around to it. The following year, when I was 12, I got second holes, but rarely wore the earrings and they pretty much closed up when I was 14/15. I think that one of them might still be open, but I have no desire to put any earrings through and check. I do wear earrings every day though!

^ I wear mine every day, too, but just really tiny ones and actually never change them. I'm into convenience when it comes to fashion ;D A lot of Claud's earrings sound really painful. Do the books ever say what kind of earrings Mal and Jessi wear? I can see them with small ones and definitely nothing with glitter - the Pikes would never allow that ;D
