Was it just me or did anyone else find it weird that Dr. Johansson would allow a friend to live at her house while she was away? And that is one talkative meter maid. Why would she tell a 13-year old stranger to "learn from her and never marry a co-worker" or something like that. What did you guys think of this one? I thought it was kind of bleh.

I liked this one! I loved the sleigh ride, that was such a pretty, heartwarming scene. And house sitting doesn't seem that uncommon, so I suppose letting a friend stay isn't that weird? I never really thought about that. I personally wouldn't let anyone stay in my home if I wasn't there, but maybe that's just me.
The mystery was kinda dodgy, but I liked the rest of it. I liked Robert and his different names for Carrot, and the interaction between Stacey and Carrot, and of course the sleigh ride.

Yeah, I got the feeling from that that Robert was jealous of Carrot. But I dunno.

Was it just me or did anyone else find it weird that Dr. Johansson would allow a friend to live at her house while she was away? What bugged me most about it was she forgot to tell Stacey that he would before she left. Dr. J is usually one of those very responsible parents...hello, this isn't an hour long babysitting job, it's a house-sitting job that's gonna span days. I guess it was a convenient plot device to include or else there would have been no "mystery", but I guess that's just it -- it was a pretty weak mystery to boot. I did like when they had their stakeout/sleepover combo though, and the sleigh ride, definitely, that was cute.

Well, for some reason I remembered that Dr. J didn't actually know that that guy was coming to her house during this particular vacation. I always thought that letting her use her house whenever he wanted was just a promise she made to him a long time ago. Thus it might have not have occurred to her that he might choose this time to drop by. I might have just imagined all of that though. But yeah, she probably should have told Stacey.

Oh yeah, I think you may be right about that. He was an old family friend or something.

Just read this one. Didn't hate it but found the mystery really far-fetched. It was really weird how Stacey never saw the guy in the house. Where was he all day, every day? I also think there would have been more clues to a person's presence in the house if they weren't trying to hide. I know I'm always leaving clothes, dishes, etc. lying around but maybe I'm a pig My favorite part of the book was the party at the end. Loved the sleigh ride and thought it was sweet how the kids made presents for the sitters. Also loved Logan and MA as Santa and Mrs. Claus.

I wasn't a fan of the cop-out mysteries. But I remember thinking it was weird that the Ramseys and the Johanssens both had the same remote access code for their answering machines.

I just reread this one recently. I found it better than the ones where there are really complicated mysteries involving people you never hear from again.

I reread this one today, and I had a serious eyeroll when Mallory and Jessi spend an hour on the phone discussing how they will entertain the younger Pikes during their sitting job the next day.

What I want to know is why there are so many meter readers in Stoneybrook. In several of the mystery books, the meter reader is high on the BSC's list of suspects.

^ What other ones were they in? For some reason, I always forget about this book - probably because it is one of my least favorites but I don't actually hate it. I do remember that it makes me dislike Robert, though, because of all of the jealousy over Carrot the dog ;D

^ When I originally posted that I could think of at least a couple books, but now I totally forget! Hahah oops! At any rate, I do know that the meter reader character has popped up - maybe not always as a suspect - a few too many times in the series.
I liked the mystery, though. It was a bit of a cheap ending, but in some ways, I prefer the "oh it the Johanssen's friend whose note was destroyed by Carrot" -type endings to the "look, we stopped a dangerous criminal!" ones. Even if the former type is a bit of a let-down, at least you can actually picture it happening. Then again, I never read the books for a dose of reality, so the crime-stopping mysteries are fun, too. This one actually freaked me out as a kid. If I were in Stacey's shoes, and dishes I hadn't used appeared in a house that I thought was empty, I'd totally panic. And, I'd tell my mother!

There's a meter reader in Shannon's Story.

This mystery was okay. I thought the ending was a bit of a cop out but it was still decent. Robert really annoyed me in this book with all his jealousy.
I found it a little weird that Dr. J not telling Stacey about her friend but I guess everyone forgets sometimes...
