Shannon got "a necklace with beads made from magazine pages." Stacey's earrings were papier-mache, but this sounds worse. They just cut out pictures of beads from magazines and made that into a necklace? I took it as they balled up pieces of magazine pages. I never thought that maybe it was pictures of beads.

^ i have a necklace with paper beads. the paper is wrapped really tight and shellacked so that they keep their shape. it looks really cool, and they are surprisingly heavy-duty.

Yeah, that makes much more sense. I don't know why but I always pictured them cutting out little tiny pictures of beads/jewelry from magazines. I'm weird.

I confess to imaging them literally cutting out any image in a magazine, punching a hole in the paper, and calling it a "bead."

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but does anyone know how Carrot got his name? Does he like eating Carrots or something? Personally, I think it's a stupid name for a dog.

I don't think it's ever been said as to how Carrot got his name.

^I agree VirgoScorpio. As I said before I think (we were never told for sure) Carrot was supposed to be a humorous (not to me) joke of sorts to dog owners who name their pet "Brownie" or "Hershey" or some other unhealthy food item.

My mom loves naming all brown dogs Brownie It just occurred to me that Carrot sounds girly...that "Care" sound.

I mentioned this before but I named my Maine Coon cat Margo, and she actually has the same birthday as Mallory (May 2nd -- Taurus!)

If ever I have a collie, his name would be Louie.

I like the name Louie. My friend had a cat and named him Louis, and Louie was his nickname.

Oh this book....for one I have an issue with people leaving their pets for two weeks and only having someone walk them twice a day. Poor carrot! I would have someone stay at my house to keep them company! Anywho - other than that what a terrible book. I feel like chapters were just thrown in as pc - the chapter with MA sitting for a jewish family to explain hannukah (obv no need for this chapter).
So I realize that the BSC timeline is super messed up, but I am reading this in order of publication and it is really messed up! This one is after the bridesmaids SS but Dawn still isn't home....stupid!!!!!

^Try placing the book before SS#12, right before in fact. Following, SS312, is Kristy and Mr. Mom and the infamous Mrs. Marshall. The "worst" is still SS#10 when after 3 books Franklin and Mrs. Barrett are engaged, despite not really being engaged until #77. But I've said this all already. I loved when Stacey said that she'd "never forget that barn full of happy, hopeful children's faces anytime soon" following hearing "Holiday Tales and Traditions."

I have been reading some of the "cool weather" books in the hope doing so would help "cool me" down here. I have to admit how much I missed Stoneybrook. Lol, I just might end up re-reading yet again. My point is I was surprised by how down-to-earth, younger (truer) to their age, and close the girls were in this. For a later book, their friendships worked so much better than usual. I also liked Shannon was part of the story. My favorite later times are when Dawn is gone, Abby has not been heard of, and Shannon is involved. Before I get started on that again, I just say I didn't realize that Bill Grauman HAD left Stacey a note that Carrot chewed up. Bill did apparently realize the Johannsen's were not home and probably had a house sitter. If he truly were that close a friend, he really should have tried contacting them! I realize this was pre cell phones but their itinerary was supposedly on the fridge. It sure was awfully "convenient" how he only showed up late (apparently not Saturday--stakeout night) at night and left at the crack of dawn AND that he only upset Carrot initially. That reminds me! Do we know who any of the Johannsen's neighbors are? Besides Jessi, I mean. I ask because it occurred to me that if Carrot truly was barking his head off in upset, one of them must have heard and/or seen a strange red-haired man enter the house. That would have been such a better "mystery." Finally, speaking of poor Carrot, it was awful how even after seeing the "uncracked" vase sitting on the hall table, on the last night before the Johannsen's were to return, NOT one of the sitters, not even Kristy, thought to take Carrot home for the night. For one night, though it should have been much earlier when Stacey first instinctively knew something was wrong, surely one of their families would have permitted a furry guest!
