This book had so much snarkage between the characters! Some of the descriptions the characters gave surprised me. Shannon and Jessi laughing about how Mal had to have the mystery notebook in Salem. The very fact that Mallory had to have the notebook even though what was already in it wouldn't help them solve the mystery was ridiculous. She couldn't just add to the notebook later? Shannon and Jessi explain that to her. The other members in Salem even told her it was a good idea. Duh. Abby's remark about how Jesse had wrapped the notebook so that Mr. Wu would know what it was was great! There was so much else it's too much to list here. I hated the subplot about the Stoneybrook Halloween Parade. It was so boring. Apparently Watson is so powerful he can get his street closed off just by asking. The one thing I didn't like was the fact that the Witches Eye glowed green in order to protect Abby. And they just explained away as a light hitting it. With someone (Mary Anne, I think) saying "I'm not so sure". Of course there's also the ridiculousness of the Baby-Sitters Club solving a crime involving the theft of a famous diamond that is supposed to be cursed. But, whatever.

The snarkage was definitely in full force in this book. Loved it! I enjoyed Abby's chapters with her pet pumpkin a lot, and the Kristy/Cary/Alan stuff at the museum. That was cool when they all went to see "The Crucible" too.
Agree that the Stoneybrook plot was not interesting. Was Jordan pretending to have magic powers or something? Lame-o.
Also, I remember thinking what was up with Mallory for thinking she was going out of her way to make friends with Eileen. You're not exactly part of the "in" crowd yourself just cuz you hang with 8th graders, Mal. Eileen didn't seem bad at all; she just couldn't stick up for herself. Interesting that Mal would endure teasing like that later.

^ I liked Eileen. I wished she would have been in more books. And, for some reason, my favorite parts of the book were Alan's jokes. Some of them were pretty cool. I wonder how he was able to tamper with Kristy's ticket? Man, I need Claudia's Nancy Drew skills.

I loved this book. Lots of fun and action. For once I was able to suspend disbelief and just enjoy it. Probably more so because I pretty much knew what was going to happen and could just watch it play out. Even Abby taking down the criminals with soccer moves was far-fetched, yet awesome.
The real curse here is Mallory to the authors she meets. Each meeting gets progressively worse for them. The next one Mal runs into will probably flee in terror.
Loved Kristy, Alan and Cary all scaring each other silly. Serves Kristy right for going off on her own and missing out on the mystery. Although I'm not sure how they spent so much time in the museum that they didn't get back until nighttime. Hmm...
I thought their costumes sounded more appropriate for the kids' parade than the adult parade. Seriously, a pumpkin patch? Abby's was just weird. She's wearing a globe and a cup on her shoulders? Sherlock Bones and Mother Time? Embarrassingly hilarious.
They need a better editor. Mr. Blake turned into Mr. Baker, and Ms. Garcia turned into a Mrs. in the middle of the book.

I read this book for the first time recently. I kind of skimmed it so I'll have to reread it again.
Observations - It seemed like half of the babysitters had no subplot. Which was nice I guess but boring. - I liked that they were on a school trip but Salem is such a cliche to have a mystery in. - The BSC should have been in the kid's parade. Since when is 13 considered adult? Only in BSC land I guess. - I agree about Mallory's attitude towards Eileen. Having friends in the 8th grade doesn't make you cool in 6th grade. Eileen seemed to be a neat character. She also seemed to have a dress sense much like Claudia's. Why wasn't it cool on her?

Aw, I don't remember the snarkage! Will have to reread. I remember really liking the pet pumpkin, and I liked the Kristy scenes too.

This book was a lot better than Baby-Sitters Beware or Christmas Chiller. The stuff with Alan was awesome. Haha, I love Mallory calling some else a 'social klutz'.

I actually am about to re read this one because it is Halloween. I am really excited though because I seem to have forgotten a lot just by reading this thread. The subplot sounds boring though.

I love this one! It took me a few times to get into it originally, but now I absolutely love it! I really liked Cornucopia (the pet pumpkin) and how Alan was constantly bothering Kristy. I especially loved the prank they pull on Cary - any time Kristy and Alan team up, there's just pure awesomeness. ;D Word about the stupid Stoneybrook subplot. Why did they even bother putting that in? I've read that bit once, all other times I've skipped over it. Oh, and of course, Mary Anne just has to baby-sit Ms. Garcia's daughter. Nadia was pretty cute, though, so I didn't mind all that much.

^ I'm getting ready to reread this one for Halloween and am now really looking forward to it, especially Alan and Kristy. ;D What was the Stoneybrook subplot? Maybe I can just skim it.... Too bad Nadia didn't show up again because I do remember her being cute.

Although I'm not sure how they spent so much time in the museum that they didn't get back until nighttime. Hmm... I hadn't thought of that before, but it does make you wonder....In all seriousness, I loved the museum stuff. It was my favorite part of the book.

I loved the museum stuff as well in this book. I think it may be one of my favorite super mysteries. I have always been interested in Salem and the witch trials so it was an added bonus to the book for me.

I just reread this one and loved the Kristy/Alan/Cary thing. I also found Abby pretty funny, more so than usual, and loved it how MA and Mal stood up for Eileen. The best thing about this book for me is the setting - makes me want to go back to Salem, though. ;D
