I liked this book. It is the only portrait I have ever read. But her dad was WAY too extreme. I liked the softball camp and Car Man storylines though.

I actually liked her dad a lot in the Car Man storyline. I would have laughed at what she'd done too. I also like that he made Sam and Charlie play with her. Also, I love the relationship between Kristy and Watson. I wish they would have explored that more throughout the series.

I reread this one recently, and I loved all the stories in it. I think my favorite one was car man. I thought it was cute, and funny.
I never liked Kristy's dad, he always seemed like such a jerk! It always bothered me that he would have rather watched the game then worried about his wife who is about to go into labor!

I don't remember this one at all but I remember despising Kristy's dad the whole way through. He really shows his selfishness in the part (the one part I remember) about wanting her to see him in secret (which is kind of strange and creepy too) and then giving her the baseball glove that he got free or something, not even knowing that she's a lefty. Speaking of that, is it ever mentioned anywhere else that Kristy is a lefty or am I mistaken in thinking that was the plot here?

I think it was mentioned that she was left handed, because Patrick bought her a right handed glove and then she tried to exchange it and the guy at the sport's store got mad and acted snotty.
Is this right?

I believe that is correct. I remember when she was trying to exchange the glove, the guy at the store was giving her a hard time thinking it was a prank.

I don't remember the thing at the store. Was the left handed thing ever mentioned in another book? I don't remember it if it was. I think that's bad the guy at the store was giving her a hard time, but that would be kind of an unbelievable story: my dad gave me this glove and didn't know I was left handed. But the store employee wouldn't have known that this is the same guy who almost let his wife give birth at a ball game (though this is very much something my uncle - who I love and is a great husband and dad but veeerrrry laid back and a total baseball nut - probably would do. Now I'm laughing picturing my high-strung aunt screaming at him. Also recalling their youngest daughter's birth when she was in labor and he was on the phone with the dr. describing the latex reaction she was having instead of telling him to meet them at the hospital like he was supposed to. ;D)

Hee! I was a week overdue to be born, but when my mom did go into labor, it went really fast, and part of the whole story is that when they were supposed to be leaving for the hospital, my dad was looking for the book he was reading and my mom threw a washcloth a him, shrieking, "You're not going to need the ********** book!" (And she was right--they don't even know the name of the doctor who delivered me, because my mom's doctor didn't get there in time; they had to grab the guy from the next room).
Anyway. Topic? Yeah, Patrick's a jerk, and Watson's a sweetheart.

Well the problem was that Patrick hadn't actually bought the glove. It was a freebie from some event he'd gone to, and there was an inscription inside it. So the store guy thought she was trying to trick him into taking it.

Oh yeah! I remember that now. He didn't even buy it for her! How cheap.

I thought that was the worst thing about the glove - it was a freebie! Totally agree about Watson and Patrick, alula and loved the story about your parents When I was born, (this is fairly unrelated to this topic but along the same lines) my dad got my mom to the hospital in plenty of time but then ate tons of onions on a hot dog and breathed in her face. Needless to say, she was not pleased and slugged him (I think she also bit him too. What can I say - we're a family of biters ;D)

I liked that Watson didn't tell on Kristy when she was sneaking around. It was sweet of him to buy her that new glove when the truth came out.

That part with Watson was really sweet. I really liked how his relationship with Kristy grew.

It was really nice to see Kristy go from practically hating Watson to almost thinking of him as a father.

I know, I think watching Kristy and Watson getting closer really showed growth and character development on her part.
