No thread for this?! Did I miss it?? Anyway, I'm in the middle of it right now (but I think I left it at my sisters house, bummer!) and so far I really like it. I love reading about when Dawn met Sunny and I love how Dawn thought Sunny was sooo weird! Sunny's parents seem really cool, I love the pic of Sunny and Dawn as 6 year olds. So cute! Also Dawn's "Fire!" chapter was HILARIOUS. What a random thing to be totally paranoid about! I understand being concerned, but drawing escape plans? And surprising your family with a fire drill at midnight?! Awesome, Dawn! The chapter about her grandparents golden anniversary was really sad because Dawn goes on and on about how she knows her parents will be together forever and how in love they are and we already know what's about to come Poor Dawn. The pictures of Dawn's dad in this book are freaking hot! He has got to be the best looking adult in the BSC. Dawn eats an awful lot of chicken in this book. If she really IS fully vegetarian, when did she allegedly make the switch?! I think she eats chicken in the chapter when she's 12! Maybe she was only 10 though, I don't have the book with me to confirm.

Heh, there's a thread somewhere where there's some discussion about Dawn's dad being hot and someone scanned the pics. Sharon wasn't how I pictured her though. I thought she'd be shorter and with curlier hair. I think she's described as having curly hair in MA Saves the Day.
I totally love that chapter where Dawn meets Sunny! The Winslows were really sweet.
I wanted to hug Dawn in the chapter about her big secret/sitting job. Poor thing, feeling all that guilt over what she said to Sandra.

Dawn's portrait was one of my favorite of the portrait collections. I also loved the chapters where Dawn met Sunny. I loved how she went from thinking they are strange to not caring what people thought.
I loved in the anniversary chapter he put the ring in her glass. I forgot exactly what he said, but I remember thinking it was really romantic and sweet when I first read it.

Heh, it was me who posted the pictures of Dawn's dad. What a hottie!
Does anyone else find interesting that all of Dawn's issues like vegetarianism and environmentalism were really only adopted with the influence of Sunny? And she thought that Sunny was a weird hippie freak when they first met. Doesn't say much about Dawn as an individual...

^I noticed that too, jen! Before Sunny came along she seemed like a "normal" girl, but after meeting Sunny, not only is Dawn completely different, but it seems her entire family's habits changed!

Agree about Dawn's "individualism". Kind of like how she is always changing for guys she meets. Also agree that many of her extreme ideas seem to come from Sunny. Maybe this is why I don't like Sunny and didn't really care for Dawn's Book because it shows the relationship developing between the two. I am the opposite of a hippie (don't know what that would be called) and promise not to get started on my views on that Anyway, I liked Dawn without all of the extreme activist ideas when she first joined the club. I just realized - her personality changed through the series when she moved back to CA and visited for long times. Maybe this was because of Sunny influence instead of the ghost writers just messing up as I had always thought before. Interesting point to consider...

Yeah I think she definitely was influenced by Sunny to a point, but it seems that after Dawn moved to Stoneybrook, Sunny changed and wasn't the little hippie girl that is portrayed in Dawns Portrait. I mean they still had all the required health-food scenes and all, but I can't imagine CA Diaries Sunny or even post-Dawns move back to CA Sunny being all active in things she believes in.

IAlso Dawn's "Fire!" chapter was HILARIOUS. What a random thing to be totally paranoid about! Not really, I was terrified of fire in the 2nd grade to the point that I made myself sick everymorning before school. I refused to go to bed unless I had a wet washclothe beside my bed (my mind meant it to help with smoke) and we had to rig up a big bag that we could lower my dogs down in if there was one in the middle of the night. So maybe Dawn just saw the same fire-safety week video I did and it terrified her too lol.

I can totally see Dawn being scared of something like fire. I had some real phobias of my own that I still am not totally over. Quote from this book, which I just reread quickly: Dawn says, "I was braiding Maggie's green tail." I don't know why but it just made me laugh. That is something I say about my horses.

It's been forever since I read this one, I'll have to dig out my copy soon and read it again. The one bit that always made me laugh was when Sunny was showing Dawn something that was tye-dyed and Dawn goes, "It didn't look to me like it was made of dead ties." ;D Haha.

I like the illustration in this one of Sunny leading Dawn through the department store with a flashlight in the power outage.

This was one of my favorites. I loved reading about Dawn's life before her parents split, we don't really see much of her dad in the regular series. My favorite part though, is the morse code on the elevator.

Ha, I totally forgot about the dead ties part until now. I didn't notice that but love it I'll have to look for it when I reread. I always love the cute word mess-ups that the charges make so will have to look for them in the Portraits too.

I'm reading this book for the first time and I totally love it! I love hearing about Dawn meeting Sunny. They seemed so cute together as little girls. I also like how Dawn's family and Sunny's family were all friends with each other, I thought that was nice. Oh and when Dawn did her firedrill and Jeff actually climbed out his bedroom window like she'd told him to a few days earlier. So funny!
This book made me wish there was a "Sunny's Portrait". I haven't read any of the CA Diaries books so I don't know much about Sunny, but her family seems really sweet and I'd love to hear more about her childhood/early years.
