What really bugged me about this book is how Kristy is all shocked when she sees Stacey babysitting for Charlotte. She was all like "You're not in the BSC anymore. How can you babysit."
And another thing is I found it kind of weird that they were willing to drink out of the same soda - Alan, Howie, and MA. Didn't they worry about germs?
Anyways, what did you guys think about this one?

That's the best part of the book! Kristy is so ridiculously furious. "You can't baby-sit! The Johannson's are our clients!" And then Carrot barks and Stacey says, "I guess I'll write down that he barks at strange people." I love how Stacey remained completely calm while Kristy practically threw a tantrum right there on the Johannson's doorstep.
The cover of this book is hideous. Mary Anne looks like Coconut Head from Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide.

^ She did seem kind of stocky didn't she? I guess the illustrator had gorillas on his mind still when he drew MA.

Can someone explain to me the part in this book about the keys they had because they were doing their assignment, and how exactly they were meant to get their research information? That confused the hell out of me.

I just sorta skimmed over that, because that confused me as well I loved the subplot in this book! The Elephant Walk. I thought that was cute. It was one of the more enjoyabl good samaritan subplots. And hee, lovelylemontree, word on Kristy.

About keys: they have these at the philadelphia zoo. next to the cages/environments of the animals, there's a box with a speaker on it/headphone jack. You pay a fee for a key which you can stick into a keyhole to have extra information about the animal pumped out of the speaker.

What was up with the subplot? Seriously an elephant in a shopping mall?
SMS seems really big on having kids work on really random assignments in randomly assigned groups doesn't it?

Did the school pay for the entry fees for all those kids, all those days? I'm sure a school group could work out a discount, but still. Most public schools don't have that kind of money!

And another thing is I found it kind of weird that they were willing to drink out of the same soda - Alan, Howie, and MA. Didn't they worry about germs? i share drinks all the time. in fact, in russia, if you go out drinking with people--or just happen to start talking with them in a bar--and you finish your beer, the polite thing to do is for the people you are with to refill your beer from their glass. this is actually pretty gross to me too but it would be rude to refuse. oh well. anyway, i found the mary anne, howie, and alan all sharing a drink thing to add a welcome dose of reality to the books. usually the bsc WOULD be all omg!germs! and get separate drinks. but here the ghostwriters acknowledges that alan and howie spent all their money on pot or pranks from mcbuzz's and don't have the money to get their own drinks so they all must share. <3

Just reread this one for the first time in a long time. I liked it better than I remembered, which surprised me because BSC books about animals tend to be my least favorite (but I guess that is pets - I do kind of like reading about zoos and playing games like zoo tycoon. Just don¡¦t like the smell of a real ones ) This book brought back good memories of a Bio class that I had in college where I was supposed to go to the zoo and observe the social behavior of animals (I got out of it by observing my barn cats instead ¡V the zoo and school were an hour away and there was no way I was driving that more than my 2 times per week commute.) Zoo books always bring back memories of that class and now I¡¦m really in the mood to go to Animal Kingdom at Disney ƒº I love the elephants, especially, and gorillas and liked reading about them in this book. I thought the Save Babar subplot was cute, even though I usually don¡¦t get into the ¡§save the¡K¡¨ campaigns that the BSC organizes. I kind of saw things from both Kristy and Stacey¡¦s perspective but thought both were equally wrong for not giving in even a little. Did it ever really say how their project turned out? (Glad mine didn¡¦t involve a group ¡V hate group projects ƒº) I also thought it was kind of bad that they put the kids in the middle of the fight by having them ask Stacey to borrow the boom box. And why did she insist on coming with it? That was obviously just to make Kristy mad. What was with the Logan and Alan competition? Who or what were they really competing over ƒº (I know we¡¦ve mentioned both being possible matches for Kristy and since Logan is MA¡¦s boyfriend¡K I didn¡¦t see any sparks between her and Alan, though.) As always, Alan entertained me. Is Howie in any other books? He seemed to be a random character. I thought it was gross how they all drank from the same coke but I know lots of people who do this (not with Alan and Howie, though. Yuck!) Also didn't get parts of the mystery but oh well. The other parts made up for it I¡¦m glad I reread this one. It isn¡¦t one of my favorite mysteries but not one of my least favorites, either. It is one of the better MA ones, though.

^ Howie sort of dates Stacey near the beginning of the series, and I think he pops up a few random times as well. He's never really featured, though.

Ew - Howie and Stacey - I can't picture that. At the beginning of the series, the girls seemed to have some strange choices for dates who never really were featured again as characters. Thank goodness for more interesting, well developed "boyfriend" characters like Logan, Ben and Quint instead of the random guy for each dance.

I just re read this one, and I have to say the Kristy/Stacey thing was very entertaining. I actually liked this mystery more than some of the other ones, however it was another mystery where I solved it before they did.
