I just read this for the first time and wasn't too keen on it, but of course I've never really been a fan of the mysteries.
The last line of the book is so of its time it's so cringe. Just to remind everyone, both of Mary Anne and Logan's groups get free passes to the zoo for solving the zoo mystery (and this includes Alan Gray and Howie somebody) and the last line is "So Logan and I are planning a trip to the zoo next weekend with Alan and Howie. Not!" UGH, GROAN.
I also noticed that there were TWO ghostwriters which was interesting and neither one was Ellen Miles who usually does the mysteries. Maybe that's why this one seemed more off than usual. Who knows.

Malcolm and Jahnna always wrote BSC books together (I think they are in a relationship). Can't say I love their style because they always make characters do inexplicable things.

Do you know any other books they wrote? This was the first time I've noticed there were two ghostwriters for one book. I wonder how that works? Does one write the A storyline (the zoo mystery) and the other one write the B storyline (the one about saving the elephant?)
Mary Anne doing the "Not!" at the end of the sentence was just so out of character for her, I can't see her doing that. Now if this was a Logan-narrated book, sure, that could work.

Copying this from fandom:
#47, Mallory on Strike #54, Mallory and the Dream Horse #57, Dawn Saves the Planet #64, Dawn's Family Feud #69, Get Well Soon, Mallory #73, Mary Anne and Miss Priss #78, Claudia and Crazy Peaches #81, Kristy and Mr. Mom #93, Mary Anne and the Memory Garden #108, Don't Give Up, Mallory!
Mystery #20, Mary Anne and the Zoo Mystery The Baby-Sitters Club Guide to Babysitting
[edit] editing to say I have no idea how they split up the writing duties. Maybe they each took a plot or maybe it was more collaborative the whole way. The concept of writing a book with someone else is weird to me.

They're a married couple. They also wrote the Bad-News Ballet series and a bunch of (I'm assuming) cheesy teen romance books. It's like when two people direct a movie together. How does that really work?

Now I know why the characters especially Logan seemed ooc in this one. It wasn't ghost written by Ellen Miles like most of them are.
What was the point of Kristy studying her dog for the project? I thought the whole point was to study zoo animals?
And how did they have time for another do gooder project with their own school project to do??
Also I laughed at Dawn's stupid comment about not caring if the cages are clean or not, zoos are bad for animals according to her. I can just picture her being an activist for animal rights or the environment (or even an eco terrorist)when she's older and getting arrested for disturbing the peace with idiotic protests too. What Dawn doesn't realise if animals who can't cope in the wild let out of their cages they could seriously hurt or even kill people or themselves. Then Dawn would feel bad. Plus zoos if they treat their occupants humanly are terrific for breeding programs to prevent extinction. Dawn needs more education in these matters, she's young I guess.
