I absolutely love this one...best book in the series...I still kinda get chills when the dummy's hanging in the gym, and Micheal Rothman sayd "Liz is back". Same here. This is one of the creepier BSC mysteries, and I liked it (although I'm not big on horror as a whole). I also thought it was creepy when the vandal (which we now know was Liz) wrote on the wall: "Will you still love me tomorrow?" I heard that song recently and thought of this book.

I think this mystery was one of the mysteries that scared me more than others. It gives me the chills as well, especially with the scene with the dummy hanging and the writing on the wall.

^ Oh, this one always scares me. It is my favorite mystery and now I can't wait for Halloween to reread. For some reason, this one always seems like the mystery that has the most surprising stuff in it, meaning that I'm kind of surprised they dealt with this type of issue in a BSC book. (if this makes any sense) Reminds me a little of that episode of My So Called Life where they get locked in the school at Halloween and I think it really creeps me out because I somehow connect it with the movie "Carrie".

^ Hey! They should have written a mystery where Sharon was the psycho in the end, which would explain her scatterbrained-ness.

I just reread this one and I really liked it. It is one of the creepier ones, and also kind of sad. I actually found the part where Stacey talks to Michael Rothman about what happened to be really affecting.
There's are also a bunch of random details I find amusing: in the first chapter, Alan Gray and Pete Black eat lunch with the girls! Later on, Logan is eating with them, and in the middle of a conversation he "looks hungrily" at Mary Anne's sandwich and without any dialogue she offers him a bite, which I find very cute; that is such a long-term couple thing to do. The idea of Richard Spier attending middle school dances fills me with unholy glee (and it's because I love him, don't get me wrong), and it's kind of cute when he and Sharon get all sappy about high school dances while Mary Anne and Stacey are trying to quiz them. Abby has different handwriting, and it's pretty; I can see why maybe they decided to go for a big loopy print instead, but I like AbbyScrawl 1.0. I wish my handwriting looked like that!
I still think the red and purple color scheme sounds kind of fug, although not as bad as that big random cut out of a mask in the corner of the cover illustration. And seriously, the middle school budgets enough for the decorations committee for a single dance to go by portraits and other random stuff just for ambiance? Wow. (I know, I know, that makes me, like, Mrs. Jerome Wetzler. "You d**n kids get off my lawn, with your "rap" music and your low-rise jeans!").

abby scrawl 1.0 was also used for shannon in the beginning, and abby scrawl 2.0 was used for at least one secondary character--a popular girl in stacey and the cheerleaders who sends stacey a note.
i really like shannon scrawl 2.0 though--i think it really reflects her character because it's so neat and precise.

What is the subplot in this one? I don't remember anything beyond the main plot. Also, is this the one where Cary has the "spot" in the basement? That always creeped me out.

That was in the "Stolen Hearts" book. (Can't remember the actual title and am too lazy to look it up.) That was definitely creepy. Who hangs out in a basement?

I just read this one and loved it as always. It scared me as usual, too. Liz Conners is seriously creepy. I liked the costumes and even didn't mind the subplot. For some reason, I always mix Mr. Rothman up with Wes in my mind. I know Mr. Rothman is much older but I think I see Wes as his age or something. Not sure why I do this. I also noticed the reference to Carrie this time, which I thought was interesting since that's what this book always makes me think of. I think this is one of my favorite mysteries.

I just read "Open Window" and it made me think about this mystery. I don't mean to be seriously prejudiced, but "crazy" people freak me out a lot.
