I thought that this book was creepy. The "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" and the dummy in the basketball hoop were really creepy.

^ every time i hear that song i think of this book. and every time i read the book that song gets stuck in my head :]
but seriously, this book is creepy. holy cow is this book creepy. but it's one of my favorite mysteries for sure. i said it somewhere else, but i prefer mysteries with crazy psychos over all the rest. and i'm pretty sure this book introduced cary retlin, who is one of my favorite characters. i'm not totally sure if it's this book though.

The scene in the cafeteria where Claudia is explaining to everyone about students without pictures in the yearbook is really over the top. They're all like "AHA!" and "Claudia is a GENIUS" and just yelling about it. Um, duh. They've been getting yearbooks since sixth grade, no? You'd think they'd already know about kids that are not pictured.
How on earth did Liz Connor find out about the dance if she wasn't living Stoneybrook? How did she get into the school time after time to spray paint the walls, rip up the posters, and hang the dummy? Jeez. If Mr. Rothman made sure he was the one heading the decorations committee, why didn't he help monitor who entered the gym the night of the dance, after all that? That's kind of...more important.
A big UGH to Cokie and Grace taking credit for Stacey's decorating ideas. Couldn't Stacey have gotten Rick, Todd, Mr. Rothman, and Claudia to back her up? Five against two.
Also on that note, is Claudia the only artistic student at SMS? She makes like, ten posters (the destroyed ones and their substitutes) and also does the portraits for their picture gallery theme. Ask the art club to help--the girl DOES have homework and baby-sitting!
A bit of an eyebrow raise over the fact that Claudia owns purple, orange, and green paisley leggings. I wonder, does she wear the purple, orange, and green scarf she was knitting not three mysteries before, with these pants? Ellen Miles...not so creative with the outfits.

This, along with Mary Anne and the Silent Witness, are two of my favourite mysteries. (I am also excited because I bought Mary Anne and the Haunted Bookstore on Amazon and remember pretty much liking that one, too!)

Five against two. word. i never understood why none of those people (who are always supposed to be really cool) never once said anything. and on that note, i think i might be the only person who actually likes the combo of red and purple.

I know. I wonder why Stacey didn't bring it up.

^I love the combo of red and purple. In fact when I move, those are colors in my house! I really like books where people end up being psycho. It terrifies me b/c I know that people are like in real life and I liked to be scared What I wondered was, obviously the teacher knew who it was, I mean there was a big $10 spray painted in the gym. Why didn't he say anything to anyone - like hey principle I think this crazy lady might be back. I must say that the ghostbusters brought me back to when I was younger. I loved that movie back then. My mom was equally annoyed at me and my friend b/c we watched grease almost everyday!

My favorite scene in this book was when Clauda and the Arnold twins ghostbusted the squirrel! I thought it was well-written and something I could totally see happening, especially their "professional ghostbuster" signs at the end; I wish we could have seen them. I admit to also liking Abby playing Ghostbusters with the Pike boys. I normally don't care for Abby but thought she sounded like a lot of fun then. Red and Purple? Purple is one of my least favorite colors..not so much. I will admit they make for a spooky sounding color palette though!

While I still like the book and think it's creepy, I can't help but think that on the cover, it's Abby dressed as Dorothy instead of Mary Anne. Maybe it's because Mary Anne is taller than Stacey on the cover or it's the face that screams out Abby to me.

That's another favorite Mystery book of mine. I just love the plot of the book and the introduction of Cary Retlin. I have never heard of that song that everyone on this book is talking about.

I liked this one more than I expected to. It was definitely more creepy than campy, and the mysteries tend to have it the other way around.
I did get annoyed with all the Ghostbuster chapters. Every time I got to one, the theme song popped into my head, and that song will get in there and stay stuck, lol. And I think this book had the most typos of any BSC book I've personally read, so that's a pretty big distinction.
Also, I agree with Booboobrewer about Claudia. She's personally responsible for any sort of decorating or remotely creative project that takes place in Stoneybrook (and sometimes in CA *glares at SS #12*). It always annoys me how they have the most illiterate kid in the entire school make all the signs and fliers and things. And whoever is narrating the book will point out the misspelling and say something stupid like, "but that's Claud for you!" while laughing and shrugging.

^ Good points. If Claud's art and decorating skills are really THAT good, it would have been totally reasonable for them to pair her with someone who was great at spelling/grammar and have them work together to make things. Even so, time after time (particularly when it's just the BSC), Claud gets the job all to herself. You'd think she'd get sick of having her work corrected, or embarrassed at constantly being wrong and would take herself off of that part of their projects!

^Also, with the little money she earns, you'd think she would get tired of having to start over (almost) every time because of mistake.
