I re read this one as well, and I really liked it. I always thought it would be exciting to stay overnight at a mansion. I agree with you aln1982 about Karen. I thought she was cute in this one as well.

I forgot one of my favorite parts in this book: where Claudia goes to the Newtons' and her tye-dyed shirt runs all over her and Jamie starts singing "Somewhere over the rainbow, there's a pie." I love how he messes up words to songs all of the time. I also love it when Janine comes and is feeding Lucy the cheerios and asks how to keep her from spilling the milk if she gives it to her.

I really liked that part as well. I liked the moments when Janine interacted with the clients, I always thought it was really sweet.

Perhaps this book's message is a warning to bart: break up with kristy as she would rather be independent by pretending she is dead than marry you.

^ Ha ha! I can't stand Bart so I like this hidden message. I would also fake death to avoid marrying him ;D His presence in the Mansion is the one thing that almost ruins it for me. (Don't know why I dislike him so much - think it's the name)

^ I know what you mean about the name. It sounds like a punching bag that is just begging for me to rile myself up with anger and beat the crap out of.

^ Love it! ;D Glad for the agreement on the name. I think my problem comes from the Mary Kate/Ashley "How the West Was Fun" movie character of "Bart the Fart." I just have problems seeing someone with that name as a cute 13 year old boy. Anyway, Bart is more tolerable in this book than in some others. I like how Kristy seems a lot more "together" and seems to be the one to make the decisions with Charlie and am glad that Bart almost just stands back and lets her. Just goes to reinforce my opinion, though, that she doesn't need him. It bugs me in this book how she is concerned about her looks in the morning at the mansion. As a kid, I always thought this ruined her "independent" character who didn't care about boys when there were more important things to worry about (which I could totally relate to and still can

I always hated the name Bart as well. Whenever I read it, I just cringe for some reason.

^ I know what you mean. It's a terrible name, especially for a 13 year old boy. Plus, when I hear Bart, I think Simpson, so I often have images of Bart Simpson in my head, when it's supposed to be Bart Taylor. Creepy. I just re-read this one, for like the third or fourth time, and I finally like it! It was actually pretty cool. The 'mystery' was interesting, and the ending was decent. I also loved Janine coming over to the Newtons - too cute. I didn't love how that Will guy went from being totally creepy to sweet and patient within a couple of pages, but it's the BSC, so that's as much character development as you'll get. Ok, I'm totally immature, but there was one part in the book that made me think of the sexual references thread here. It's when Dawn and Mary Anne are at home, during the big thunderstorm. Dawn says she's going to go shower, and Mary Anne replies that she'll be right in. The author clearly meant that Mary Anne would be right in the house, since the conversation took place on the porch, but the way it was set up, structurally speaking, made it seem like Mary Anne would be right in the shower! With Dawn! Heheh I'm so childish!

^ One of my favorite parts of this one is Janine going to the Newtons, too. I always loved to see her interacting with the kids. Jamie is really cute in this one, as always. Maybe Bart Simpson is why I hate the name Bart.Never thought of it but I have always hated that show.

Was I the only one to think that all of the Wizard of Oz references in this book were kind of weird? Either the GW had a major fascination with The Wizard or she just loved it so much she didn't know she was doing it. Think about it: In the van, Bart suggests they all sing, "We're off to see the wizard" The missing (dead) woman's name is Dorothy Jamie Newton is singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" Jamie later asks Claudia to pretend to be Dorothy and he will be the "Cowberry Lion" There is one more reference but I can't remember it right now.

Wow. I love TWOO, and even I think that's over the top. I bet she doesn't realize she's doing it. Kinda like the copious amounts of I Love Lucy references. Surely after a while they slip out without her realizing it.

^ I would assume that's it. Actually, I didn't even notice. Just reading this thread, though, and the stuff about Jamie reminds me of how much I love this book ;D

Just read this one for the first time. I enjoyed it, but agree about Dorothy and deciding to see Will, after all those years. PLUS, her dad dies of a broken heart after she leaves, and it doesn't bother her?! Did not notice the Wizard of Oz references, lol, too funny. One of the more okay mysteries
