I'm sure Janine is pretty as she was in that BSC video Claudia and the Mystery of the Secret Passage.

It was funny how they were pimping Vanessa to get a kiss from him "Pimping Vanessa" would be a great name for a rock band. Uh, no offense, Greer.

I agree that this book was a little weird (encouraging an 8 AND 4 year old) to spy. Yes, ITA agree that while I appreciate what Jerry (I can hope) was trying to say in that he was interested in Janine for Janine not simply based on her appearance, he sure did a rude job of saying so! IMO, the strangest occurrence in this book was when the Pike Boys and Derek and Todd convinced Becca and Charlotte (two of the shyest--especially Char) 8 year old girls to agree to teach them how to kiss! Not only that, but Stacey's semi-causal remark that "some of their parents might not find it funny" or whatever she said sure didn't fit in with Ann's or the Ghosties other moral-ish opinions.
On a Claudia note, she made the comment about not remembering to close her bedroom door. I know this is off topic in a way, but it reminded me of "Lighthouse Ghost" when C's mom is in her (C's) room and smells the chocolate immediately. I guess that was the only time Rioko ever spent more than a minute in her younger daughter's room (though in C and Mean Janine) Janine admits to stashing candy, too--something I wish had been mentioned again)? Apparently, Mr. Kishi, who I'm assuming is in agreement with his wife's no "junk food" in our house, doesn't either?
P.S. of sorts I forgot to say this last night but it was mentioned in this book that both Claudia and Janine had buses to catch. (For school). Since when did either of them take a bus?

I think the no reading Nancy Drew or no junk food at all rule is ludicrous!

I guess that was the only time Rioko ever spent more than a minute in her younger daughter's room I always thought Claudia was lucky that her mom practically never came into her room. My mom always was, for laundry, to tell me to clean up (or do some of it herself ), and Claudia had none of that! Maybe her mom thought it was a lost cause. ;D Hmm, that's true. They always walk.

Yeah, I thought Kristy was the only one who needed to catch the bus to school because she lived too far away. It was implied that everyone else was within walking distance of school.

^Yes, that's true. I always wondered how far all their houses were from school, downtown, etc. And was their school in the downtown area? I used to be so envious of them because they were able to walk anywhere, it seemed. I grew up in the country and had to be driven everywhere until I was old enough to get my license. I couldn't walk to friends' houses or into town because all of that was at least 5 miles or more from my house.

My mom grew up in New Jersey around the same time Ann did, and she walked to school. Her mom walked her to kindergarten but after that she was on her own. She also said that there were lots of child predators driving by offering candy.

I don't think the school is downtown...when Dawn in stalking Travis in "Dawn and the Older Boy," they have to walk/drive to get downtown.

The ghost writer probably didn't even realized she walked to school before and it was nothing more than an error

I find this to be one of the more realistic mysteries. I liked the interaction between Claudia and Janine.

The mystery at Claudia's house is that Janine gets a boyfriend? LAME... and very predictable. I figured it out in the first few chapters.
*yawn*
