This one was okay...in my high school, though, a cute guy would never have asked out a "genius" though. Really? I thought guys liked smart girls. I liked this one too. Very realistic I thought.

The ones worth dating do, but there are definitely guys who are afraid of dating someone smarter than them, and Janine wasn't cool/popular in school.

Even though this one was realistic, I'm always a bit disappointed with the ending. It was JUST Janine! She ransacked Claud's room that was already messy to begin with...
...I'd rather someone had broken in, haha.

Haha! I think I preferred the outlandish mysteries as a kid. If I wanted to read about Janine applying her nail polish badly, I could read it in a regular series chapter two.

I was disappointed too, Virgo. Not that s areal criminal had not broken in but that there wasn't a true mystery or at least more of one at Claudia's House. I know Bradford Court homes were a couple hundred (or close to it) years older than Dawn's House but even some sort of town tie in would have been cool. I would have preferred a family story that gave us more insight into Mimi and Mimi's husband, maybe John's parents, too. LOL, BooBoo, thank you for that lol. I'm not even sure I read any of the mysteries as a kid as I still am older than most of you. I agree both types can be fun but the more creepy and truly dangerous stories like Cat Burglar or even a non mystery of Jessi and Stacey being physically hurt or threatened (Dance School Phantom and when Stacey does modeling at Bellair's (Stacey and the Fashion Victim) I could have done without. Though, in a completely different way the same can be said about "bad penny Bill Grauman" in Stacey and the Mystery at the Empty House, that ending was truly disappointing to me, though will always love the sleigh ride.

What do you mean about Bradford Court homes being older? I think they were supposed to have been built in the 60s or 70s.

^I meant that Claudia's house was much older (newer in being built) than Dawn's. Sorry for not being too clear. I just finished reading Boxcar Children Mystery at Crooked House so lol good time to finally reread this one.

LOL and a hug, Greer. Keep in mind it has been super hot here for March and maybe I am just tired. I promise I'm not intending to be confusing. Dawn and Mary Anne's farmhouse was built in 1795, right? Claudia's house was built as you said in the 1960's or 1970's. Farmhouse=older and Bradford Court houses and neighborhood=newer. All this has given me a mysterious new/old idea for a thread which I will go post in a second. ETA: This heat has gotten to me and what I meant to say up-thread is that Claudia's house is younger (in terms of how long it has been in existence) to how very many years, the farmhouse has been standing. I think I was in a very confusing, especially to me, way that by older I meant as in when it was built. 1960's or 1970's is older in terms of forward time than 1795. Anyway, don't mind me. I promise to read this book tonight and have something clear to say on it tomorrow. Editing today (Monday) to say I enjoyed this book much more last night than previously. I had forgotten how Claudia spends time doing yard work with her mom and that was when Mrs. Braddock spilled the beans about Janine and Pizza Express. I realized right now it was strange Mrs. B also didn't say she saw Janine there with a guy! What was a nice, unexpected reveal was Mrs. Braddock sharing she had baked bread with Matt and Haley (she has brought a bunch of loaves in a basket to share with neighbors which was sweet. I do wonder why Matt and or Haley didn't accompany her but that's okay, a nice extra moment) Later on at breakfast Claudia and her dad have the conversation about cinnamon roles. Mr. Kishi says he couldn't resist them on his way home from work the night before. That was where he sadly commented that the more something tasted ;like junk food to Claud the more she liked it. Apparently, at least for cinnamon rolls, John Kishi also has a sweet tooth! We know he also got the m and m's for Russ and Peaches when they were bringing Lynn home. One extra candy or sweets moment in the series with him and Claud would have been awesome. I tend to think of both John and Rioko as strict and hard to approach/talk to so it was welcome seeing a few lighter conversations with them and Claud in this book. I was glad Claudia did go to them about Jerry, though she probably should have told Janine first (sort of like Janine did in Phantom Phone Caller when she knew the police had been to the Newtons' but wanted to check with Claud before going to their parents). A couple other things, I still feel the same on the spying and kissing stuff. On the cover, to me Claudia's room does not look like Claudia's room! Do we have a bedroom thread in terms of what covers show the girls bedrooms? This one to me looks and feels really dark and very small. I do like the orange hat with yellow flowers and laughed at the green and orange jacket as it reminded of Hodges jacket (when he drew himself into the scene) in Mallory's Christmas Wish. Maybe he left this jacket as a signature of sorts on here. The blue popsicle part makes me smile and brings back happy memories of preschoolers I once taught who loved Otter Pops and each of them had to have a specific color always.
