^ I wrote an LJ post about that last year. I find it entertaining as well.

On the one hand, I like how the subplot of this book has continuity with the subplot of the previous mystery -- how Charlotte getting all into spying was sparked by spying on (and being spied on by) the Rodowsky boys when they were building their go-carts. On the other hand, there is one tiny part that shows a disturbing lack of continuity. Abby sits for Charlotte and realizes spying is kind of fun. Suffering succotash, Abby, you spent the ENTIRE last mystery spying on your neighbours with binoculars!
Edited because "disturbing" is not spelled "distrubing."

I think I'm going nuts. I was going to reply saying that each 'series' has been fairly good with continuity within itself. Mysteries will refer to things that happen in other mysteries, Super Specials will do the same thing, but there isn't as much overlap between Mysteries, Super Specials and the regular series. I noticed that when I was putting together my database, but now I can't think of any examples. Maybe I imagined it...

I just don’t know what to think of this one. It is one of my least favorite mysteries but I have to admit that it was kind of suspenseful. I haven’t read it enough to remember it very well and was not positive who was guilty. I thought it was probably the guy who owned the house – who just seemed really weird – but wasn’t sure (Okay, maybe I’m just a little dense… Anyway, I wasn’t sure what to think of Cary and thought the book did a good job building suspicion against Officer Johnson, though I was almost positive it wasn’t him. Usually I can figure out right away who is guilty and was happy that this one had a few more red herrings or felt like it did a little better building suspense (but maybe I was just dumb this time when I read it I was also happy that there was a little “action” at the end. Made it feel like more of a Nancy Drew-ish type mystery, which I like. A few things made me dislike this book, though, especially Cary’s involvement. I do not like him at all. Also the lack of parental involvement bothered me, as always. I’m actually not sure why I don’t like this one more and why I feel so neutral on it because it wasn’t that bad. Maybe it is because Cary is in it. I have the same feelings about Middle School Vandal but actually kind of dislike that one. I was disappointed at the end when it said this would be the last mystery. I wish they would still be writing new ones...

Ooh, I remember reading this one. It was one of my first BSC mysteries. I felt so bad for Officer Johnson when he shows up at Claudia’s house, and then later the police show up to arrest him. (Whoa, a lot of inside stuff going on in the police force there!) And the ironic part is that this all happened… during a BSC meeting!! ;D
^I also liked the ending too, aln. It did feel like a Nancy-Drew type mystery with the suspense.

I actually liked this mystery, although I know what you mean about lack of continuity. For instance, Cary comes to Kristy's house in this one, but in the FF series, I think I remember her saying that he'd never been there before. Right.
And holy smokes, there's a REAL Cary Retlin? Cool. I wonder if he's anything like the fictional Cary?

Haha! That would be cool. There's also a real Steig Retlin (Cary's younger brother in the series) that did some illustrations for the CD series.

I know Johnson was featured in previous mysteries but did any of those go into how great a friendship he had with the bsc or was it just this one? I know it was so promenent in this book for drama when J gets arrested and is suspected and stuff.
As for the rest of it, DUH. Can you take a hint much girls. People were dropping inuendos about Johnson left and right and then there's all the phony praise that of course the bsc believed. And the girls find evidence right out in the open that trained police officers didn't? and Kristy was suspicious of this at the time the evidence was found but we didn't get to know that until the end? I knew Golem was guilty but I expected Hopkins and Winters to be in on it to. I'm glad of the "action" at the end. Finally danger!
I've haven't read too much about Retlin but I enjoyed him in this one. It added some tension with him around which made the story more interesting, although I would've preferred to have had one of the girls have the physical altercation with Golem. And Kristy even mentions that she feels "ackward" when Cary is around. Plus she says that Johnson has the clearest blue eyes she ever seen. Is our little Kristy getting hormones maybe?

I think this is my least favorite mystery. There is just something about it that I don't like, maybe it is the unrealistic aspect of it. I am definitely bothered by the lack of parental involvement. Do Kristy's parents even know what happened when she had the kids with her. Cary does add tension and I feel ackward reading about him - in a creeped out sort of way ;D Not sure why he bothers me or gives me such a creepy feeling but he does.
