It was obvious that Janine had a boyfriend since she developed an interest in fashion and make-up (even if it was for a short time) at the same time she started dating Jerry. I liked reading about the Janine makeover.

This one was boring to me, possibly because it brought back Derek Masters. I also felt cheated in the same way I did about Stacey and the Mystery at the Empty House. Two titles that claimed a more personal story concerning the Sitters only to have the plot be random and not all that entertaining either.

I liked reading about the Janine makeover. yeah it really was, and I loved that scene too, I think it's adorable sometimes when the younger sibling knows something the older one doesn't

This one was boring to me, possibly because it brought back Derek Masters. I actually find Todd Masters more interesting than Derek. Maybe that's because I wonder what it is like for him to be the non-famous sibling of a TV star. He seemed like a normal, well-adjusted kid. Cute, too. I like that one part where they're all spying on Janine and someone says, "this is a stakeout" and Todd says, "Are we having a barbecue?"

I just re-read this (god bless my library having a whole selection of BSC e-books). This was so disappointing, especially because Claud’s mysteries are some of my fave. I think what I liked least was the lack of full involvement by the rest of the BSC. It was mostly Claudia and the Masters kids and then some Kishi family interaction. I also missed out on hearing about other members’ sitting experiences with other kids that don’t have any bearing on the plot. Those interludes are usually fun.

I thought I was the only one who found Derek annoying ! He's the main reason this book isn't one of my favourites . And I always skip Jessi and the Superbrat during my rereads .

Derek doesn't annoy me, but I do get annoyed that all the plots about him involve a hollywood movie or tv show. If he wants to be a normal kid, maybe give him a normal plot.

Just finished this one. It was all right.
I'm sorry Claudia, but thus far in the series, your detective skills are NOT impressing me. I cannot believe that the girls all thought it was ridiculous for Janine to have a boyfriend. Like, Claudia was willing to believe her life was in danger before anything else. Why else would she be suddenly interested in her looks? Come on.
I forgot that there was a Derek Masters subplot. He is not my favorite client (I don't think BSC verse can make show biz interesting for some reason) and the subplot did drag on, but it was... all right.
I liked Janine's makeover and how they bonded over it. I also liked Claudia's interaction with her parents and her wanting to bask in being "the good sister" this time. The family-driven plot saves this book for me. Plus I really like Janine. I think it would've been better as a regular series book without them trying to solve a mystery, because in all honesty, it makes them look sort of dumb lol.
I don't remember how Jerry is in the later series books. Aside from his very poorly worded "I like you despite your looks" comment and being pretty cool at the family dinner, I don't have enough information to have an opinion on him. I do know that they break up later.
I think that "despite your looks" comment was meant to mean he didn't like her because of her looks, but OH MY GOD is that awful, I would cry if someone told me that. I don't think it was meant to be awful, though.
I like Claudia's outfit on the cover. This and the one on Keep Out, Claudia are the ways I picture her. I guess they're pretty much the same outfit, but I like it, and when I was in high school I tried to copy it somewhat. I don't think I pulled it off lol.
I'm thinking I might continue with the mysteries, at least all the ones up to #10 and the ones I haven't read. The early ones are all pretty enjoyable.
