Bathing cap contest question: How in the world did Charlotte create the two bassett hound ears that blew up (into pieces of inner tube)? Also, while this was a "cute" idea, wasn't Carrot, Charlotte's dog a Schauzer? Maybe Charlotte had decided to honor Pow for some reason. ^Greer, it would be a lot of fun if this board had a meet up sometime. Have any fans from a particular state ever gotten together before? The other odd thing about "guests.." The Pikes allowed Nicky, their 8-year old to go on the trip but (according to Mallory whining at the beginning, we never did get to read if she actually asked her parents) they would not allow their 11-year old to go? Even for BSC parents, that makes zero sense! It's not like Mallory would be doing any baby-sitting alone in some city...they were all together on the train! Never did get the reasoning of the Pikes or Ramsey's , either, at times. They were fine with their daughters traipsing around New York, CA, Hawaii (Jessi), etc but way back in Stacey's Emergency would not allow them to accompany the older girls on a train to the hospital! But then, it didn't seem to occur to the Johanssen's that a trip to visit Stacey might be exactly what would help Charlotte and lol they'd of course all go together. So maybe taking trains to visit people in the hospital even with your parents is not how things are done in Stoneybrook.

I liked reading about the trip to Boston. I thought that it was ridiculous that Mr. Channing didn't just call a lawyer. At the very least, he would've gotten the credit for the screen write.
I'm curious as to how Claudia was able to spell party correctly the first two times and the fourth and fifth time but misspell it the third time after spelling it correctly.

The idea of Mallory babysitting her own boyfriend is strange - I was reading this one last night and Ben didnt seem like the same Ben from earlier books...

Sounds like somebody didn't attend his or her "Ghostwriting for the BSC 101" class...

I usually like Nikki Stanton-Cha. She seems like a good mom and energetic/fun person who is also a good employer. However, in this case she didn't come across as too bright. She owns a country club/rec center with a large pool. A pool in which many kids including her own young son will be spending a lot of summer time swimming in. That said, why didn't she and/or her husband make certain Stephen could (and felt confident to) swim beforehand?! Also, while I thought it was nice of Jessi to give Stephen those "super secret" lessons, shouldn't she have told/asked his mom first?

Hahaha - I thought the same thing! Why didn't this lady get him some swimming lessons. It was nice to see them return to a place where a year (or two) earlier they helped clean up...strange BSC time warp.
As for the mystery, sigh, I wish I liked it. I liked the train and the places they visit but yet another crazy loon who shows up in the last chapter. How about some creepy villian development or something!

^He really was creepy, ranking right up there with Woody and the cat burglar guy. I thought the whole thing was too contrived. I also am not sure I see (in real life) Nicky, Buddy, Linny, and James parents letting them all go. If Elizabeth and Watson had accompanied them on the train, maybe but otherwise, not so much. But then, I know, this is the land where Jessi can sit for a long weekend but not "at night" regularly.

I thought Watson and Elizabeth were going to accompany them on the train at first. I was thinking again Watson!? Tagging along on another vacation again?
The stays in Boston and Charleston sounded neat. I wish we could have heard more about it. Their visits there went by so fast. I laughed at how Stacey referred to both these cities as "little towns"

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one! It didn't even bother me how unrealistic the plot was, simply because it seemed like so much fun. I would have absolutely loved being a sitter on the mystery train, especially with how good they made the food on there sound.
It was nice to see Nicky getting thrown a bone for once, and getting to be the lucky kid who is Derek's BFF and gets to go on the cool trip. Derek normally seems like a really well adjusted and smart kid, but it seemed like a dumb move on his part to arrive at the Krushers practice unannounced, attract all their attention and break the news of the mystery train...then say he is inviting only one kid in the crowd.

I forgot all about this one so it was a good re-read. Forgot about how they go from Boston to Charleston. It was nice reading about some of the attractions at both places. Usually I tend to Google places when I read them so I have more of a familiarity. Agree with the previous complaints about Ben; it was really annoying me too. I could understand him wanting to enjoy the pool with the younger kids but he was specifically mentioned in participating in really juvenile behaviour, like with Archie. Some parts of the mystery were pretty suspenseful, but like with many of the books, I don't remember the scene on the front cover taking place. Maybe it did in passing or something. I wished someone on the train was the culprit, not some random crazed hideaway. I guess now there is some justification to why the BSC doesn't involve parents, seeing as one of the parents on the train was partially involved.

Just finished this the other day, one of my favourite mysteries. I read it at the library when I was younger (they had all the later books until one day I went there and they were all gone. I never did find what happened to them!).
Anyway ... I LOL'd at a part near the end of the book when Channing has been caught. Kristy comes out of the bathroom where he was trying to attack her and she says how Mr Masters had a hold of Channing and that Channing's hands (slight paraphrasing) were "tied behind his back with a pair of pants."
My first thought was ... who volunteered to take their pants off to tie Channing up!?!?! Did it go something like:
Channing: Let go of me! Mr Masters: Yes, I've got him! But what will we use to tie him up? Abby: Take my pants!

This book had some creepy and exciting moments and fine writing of Kristy, Abby, Jessi (though the rest of the club and party scenes seemed kind of a waste of time) and Stacey but the suspects were too underdeveloped and with overly goofy names (I kind of forgot/didn't care about what "Anne Arbour's" role was and why the director was suspected), the resolution was kind of interesting.
Kristy telling most of the kids about the mystery and their investigation (somehow in a way that wasn't too scary or alarming) felt a little too OOC.
