If someone said something, I would use what they preferred, obviously. But I meant with strangers. I've never met anyone who was an adult and preferred "miss," though.

Then of course there's the somewhat Southern thing where women, regardless of age, are often addressed as "Miss Firstname" among familiar circles. I prefer my children to use "Mrs. Lastname" but in some cases- especially to prevent confusion where we know multiple people with the same last name, we do that.

Eh, I don't know any Southerners. Except for Logan Bruno. Oh, and my plastic surgeon.

Lol at "except for Logan Bruno"! Yes, Southerners love doing that. I get Miss Firstname all the time.

Why on earth all these northerners at our church here do it, I cannot understand! Not many are military transplants like us. And were not southerners, just from further south (NJ).

I use Miss Firstname for myself at work but only for the kids (most of my colleagues do this too). However, we don't address one another that way and don't expect our adult patrons to do so, either.

The deuce it is, Greer! It's a place of its own, a fact that has to be explained to most people from anywhere else. And you have to get below Trenton to even start to call it South Jersey!

I remember really liking this one. I wonder why they had the book banning brought up in an ff book again?

One of my favourite parts about this book is the woman who is fiercly hugging a book at the top left side of the cover, it always makes me LOL! I like this mystery for the fact that it involves a sitting charge, kind of like Missing Child, and seems somewhat realistic. This book also brought up memories as my class read Bridge to Tarabithia in Grade 5 and I always remember my teacher crying at the death scene. Nicky must have stormed through tons of books to win that prize!

Just finished reading this one and its one of my favourites. It's way better than the previous one which I couldn't get into at all. Anyway, I also like this one because I work in a library (library assistant) and we've had no fires and hopefully never will! Sean is one mixed up kid and he does get personal counselling.
The only thing I didn't like was Ms Ellway being a suspect just because Mary Anne didn't like her and her family was rich. I mean c'mon, that was so stupid. But otherwise this is one of the better mysteries.

I love this one. Probably because I'm a librarian myself.
It's not uncommon that we get student volunteers. They're usually a big help to us librarians.
Recently in Australia we had some professor from one of the universities who wanted to ban the classics from libraries! She claimed they were too old and children today needed to stick to modern books. I loath people who try and censor what children read. The woman was no youngster herself she was simply an old bat who wanted to take the joys of reading classics such as The Very Hungry Caterpiller (yes that was on her list) away.
Reading is very important for a child's growth and development. And those time-honoured try and take that away are dead to me. And also book banning.
So basically Sean tried to burn the library down because he was forced to participate? He's lucky he didn't succeed.

I just finished this one and enjoyed it, but for some reason don't have much to say about it. I think it makes sense that Mary Anne has the blues in the beginning... that's a lot of change in a short amount of time. I'm weirded out that Kristy didn't throw a fit when Mary Anne took the job at the library. I guess it's because so many of their clients would be at the library anyway. Idk.
Kristy was REALLY annoying me in this one for some reason. I feel like she's super impatient and even more bossy than usual. I don't know why she was my favorite as a kid. When Claudia was trying to tell the story of the Ellway family (they donated the land the library now sits on), Kristy interrupted her twice, and the second time she just came across as super rude:
“We’re still waiting,” said Kristy, in a singsong voice. “What are you getting at?”
Idk why this irked me so much, it just did. Kristy might be my least favorite in my re read of the series, which sucks because she used to be my favorite.
I liked that Nicky won, but there is a minor inconsistency early on: Mary Anne claims he's not crazy about reading, when in an earlier book (not sure which one, it has a subplot about clients starting a library), all the Pike kids liked to read. Plus, in Ghost at Dawn's house, he left a book behind in the passage. It's pretty minor, but still sort of bothered me. Either way, I'm glad he won. For some reason, he's my favorite Pike kid after Mal.
The Sean Addison thing is actually kind of disturbing. Kid clearly needs help. I feel like his... plan makes no sense whatsoever. I could see a kid maybe starting one fire to get attention, but that's it. Something is clearly wrong.
