Let's discuss our favorite dances the BSC attended, at school or elsewhere. I liked the Halloween dance in Mary Anne's Bad-Luck Mystery. I liked pretty much any Halloween dance they went to because it was fun to read about their costumes. I wish we'd gotten to read more about the Halloween Hop in Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls, since the whole reason Alan and Trevor made the calls was because they wanted to go to the Hop with Kristy and Claudia! I always crack up about Jessi thinking Daniel was going to "profess his love" for her at the Shadow Lake dance. Also at Stacey and Claudia's code - Claudia was supposed to rescue Stacey from Sam if Stacey blinked, Stacey blinked at her accidentally, then Claudia started charging over to them and had to be waved off.

^That was very funny with Claudia and Stacey; reminded me of "red ribbons" from Phantom Phone Calls. I wish Stacey and Sam had at least stayed friends. One of my favorite dances is when Jamie Newton dances with his mom at a spring dance at the community center. I don't remember which book just that that scene sounded sweet. My favorite dance related BSC idea is when James and Mathew Hobart plan to get their dates to the Valentine's Masquerade "pink carnation flowers." Pink carnations have always been one of my very favorites but the kind they boys were mentioning I associate with dances maybe since Kristy was worried Bart was going to wear a "puce" colored suit at the Winter Wonderland Dance in Snowbound and for a second was panicking about what color carnation she could possibly get. When Bart tells her his suit is really black, Kristy tells us almost any color will go with black except maybe gray and laughs that if she asked the florist for a grey carnation, he might think it was for an elephant.

I liked the dance in Logan Likes Mary Anne, even though her shoe went flying, I wish we saw a picture of her cities skirt, it sounded so cute
Dawn and Mary Anne seemed to be dressed really sophisticated for the January Jamboree, it sounded funny how they saw the dreaded Carlos in the end!
I know it ended badly, but the drama at the Valentine dance in Stacey's Ex Best Friend was soooo entertaining! I know she was being a little nuts, but I can't blame her for missing King though he sounded stupid.
Mary Anne and Logan's cat costumes and Kristy and Bart's lobster costumes with the red makeup sounded cool though I don't have much recollection of the dances on their own
And I'd like to take this opportunity to say that in Dawn and the Dream Boy even if Jamie Anderson was sort of cute, he messed up and I don't know why Mary Anne told Dawn to dance with him or why she did, I felt bad for him messing up who was who but whatever....

I also liked the Valentine's dance in Stacey's Ex-Best Friend. Kristy made me laugh when she wanted to tell Laine she was dancing with a seventh grader, and wondered if Laine thought seventh-graders have enough muscle control. Haha!
Felt bad for Pete, though.

Yeah that part was funny, and Stacey telling Laine to shut up when she said something about the dance being exciting for 2 year olds.

I've always loved the description of MA's dress for the Jamboree though I'm not really able to picture it. (I'm fashion-challenged.) I know the BSC takes a lot of flak for being too mature/wise beyond their years but I've always liked the choice Stacey makes at the start of the dance to be mature and an adult and have fun with Austin and her other friends, instead of continuing to fight with Laine during the dance. Also, Pete did not deserve what Laine put him through. She should've turned him down if she didn't want to be his date but say she'd probably be going with Stacey and her friends and say to save her a dance. You're right, MA shouldn't have told Dawn to dance with Jamie and Dawn never should've danced with him. I mean, have a little self-respect, Dawn! And Jamie should've totally confirmed whom he was talking to on the phone, especially seeing as Dawn was the one he asked for the number.

I couldn't picture Mary Anne's dress either then until Dawn's Family Feud came out and she had on a sleeveless red dress on the cover. I felt that might have been the dress. Now I'm wondering if fans wrote to Ann about liking Mary Anne's new clothes and the shopping chapter in Mary Anne's Makeover.
I don't think I would have thought the way I do now about that scene in Dawn and the Dream Boy, but glad you can also see it. To me, it looked like Mary Anne was once again validating to Dawn "he's yours" when they were supposed to have resolved that issue. And it's neither ones fault if Jamie liked Mary Anne, he totally acted like it and he was the one who asked for the phone number, and asked about Mary Anne before the number. It's so obvious he likes Mary Anne and I wouldn't be okay with dancing with him after what happened, I don't think he's bad, just got into an awkward situation that all parties needed to move on from LOL

But MA's dress on the cover of Dawn's Family Feud doesn't go down to her mid-calf, isn't off-the-shoulder, doesn't have sleeves and is not what I'd call fiery-red.
Oh, I'm sure I didn't think about it when I was 11 and watching the video but now that I'm 32, I can see it. It's totally not Jamie's or MA's or Dawn's fault that Jamie likes MA, I just think it was jerkish of Jamie to lead Dawn on when it was obvious Dawn liked him and because he knew MA and Dawn lived together he should made certain he knew who was on the phone, especially because MA asked who was on the phone when Sharon told them there was a phone call. So, I've just realised some of this is Sharon's fault. I also think Dawn was awful to blame MA for Jamie liking her. MA had no way of knowing he did (as I remember he mostly showed he liked MA when she wasn't around) and she also had a boyfriend. It took way to long to bring Logan's name into that siutation. But yeah Dawn dancing with him after felt like 'so what if you like like my sister, I'll dance with you anyway because you're cute' and I would've rathered she said no. (And I realized this is kinda across the mape here but I do like how Jamie offered to dance with her to make it up to her. But I also wouldn't have been okay with dancing with him after all that happened.)

I liked the dance in Stacey and the Haunted Masquerade because it was one of times that it actually played a game in mid-book with the reader: it listed the costumes that each sitter went as but didn't tell you who went as which and at the end of the book, it revealed the answers.

Yeah I was about 9/10 when I saw it and recognized him as Sandy from Swan's Crossing 30 now, have come a long way since! And I agree with all you're saying as well.

I wish there'd been more of the winter dance they were all fretting about in Snowbound. We only got a little glimpse. I did like the picture at the end of their outfits.

My all-time favorite dance is when Mary Anne goes on her very first school dance with Logan in #10. Sure, Mary Anne's shoe went flying and everything, but it was very entertaining and not to mention realistic. Not everybody's first dance is successful.
My number two favorite dance in Stacey's Big Crush, the Spring Fling (or something like that). I know Stacey got her heart broken but it was nice of Wes to talk to her in private instead of in public.
My number three favorite dance in Kristy's Mystery Admirer. It was cute that she and Bart went together as lobsters. PLUS, Kristy got her first kiss.
I only wish that my school dances had just as creative names as SMS! There were only names like "back to school" dance, "Halloween" dance, "Thanksgiving" dance, "Christmas dance, "Valentines Day" dance, etc.

I wish there were, IRL, more events like that community center dance, that are open and comfortable for people of a variety of ages. What fun it would be!

^Community center dances for all ages seem like yet another thing from the 50s that Ann included in her Stoneybrook. (I was reminded of this this past Christmas when watching the movie Christmas in Connecticut.) It would be nice if they still existed.
