I surprised that a thread hasn't been made about this book yet, it's one of my favourite BSC mysteries I love Stacey's shopping trip with Charlotte, as for once it actually shows the closeness between the girls instead of just mentioning it all the time. Also it was nice when everyone thought they were sisters. I liked that Claud and Stacey's friendship was fleshed out a lot more in this book, I liked their chapter at the beginning when they're reading mags and gossiping about the new hot rod of 8th grade, Terry Hoyt Of course another selfish Claud moment when she shakes her bag of M'Ms and says "Mmm there's nothing like chocolate!" in front of Stacey... how nice Drama involving Stacey and Sam, as Stacey thinks 15 year old Sam is too immature for her (rubber tarantella episode) so they "take a break" and she falls for shy new boy Terry with the hazel eyes. She goes on a double date with him, Mary Anne and Logan... these are moments when they definitely don't seem 13. Then she finds out in a big confession that he's "never told a single soul" that is Dad is *gasp* in the Secret Service and that's why he moves all the time. Then apparantly his name isn't even Terry... Oh yeah there's also the main plot involving Stacey passing a fake bank note and the BSC wanting to capture the evil counterfeiters. Hehe also an amusing but annoying part where Charlotte thinks Stacey was arrested and wants to clear her name. One more thing, didn't anyone find it weird that 17 year old Charlie was turned on by Terry's 13 year old twin sister Tasha...

^That was icky. Dude's about to graduate high school and he's checking out a middle-schooler!
There's a part during the date where Stacey is mooning over how perfect Terry is; he's smart, witty, thoughtful, good-looking, etc., etc...I remember being like whoa, 8th grade boys sound fabulous. Of course once I got to 8th that was not the case at ALL, lol. I think the romance aspect was my favorite part of the book, though. It just felt so grown up to me. Stacey and Charlotte's special day out was so cute. I love them together. They both look so pretty on the cover too.
I found the mystery part of it actually kind of scary when I was young...them waiting in the parking lot at the end, and then being so close to the counterfeiter. Also I thought it was kind of awesome that Stacey never told anyone the truth about Terry.

I remember loving this book when I was younger, I think its about time for me to reread it. The shopping trip was one of the cutest moments ever for me. I always thought it was good that Stacey and Charlotte had each other like that.

I found the money part a bit unrealistic, though. Does that really happen to you when they 'catch' you with fake money in the states? I know for sure that no cop would be bottered here. And there would be a way to get your money back from the bank, or something/

^I'm not sure exactly what the procedure is for counterfeit money here. If they catch you trying to buy stuff with a fake $100 bill or something, I'm sure they would keep you there while they get the police to sort it out. Also, I agree with booboobrewer about it being great that Stacey never told anyone about Terry. It's neat when we as readers get to be a part of a "secret" that one of the club members is keeping from the others (i.e. Jessi getting picked for Dance NY).

If you are caught passing counterfeit money (intentionally or not) you are NOT reimbursed for it. We learned all about this when I worked in a bank. How could they reimburse you? If they did that, everyone in the world would be printing fake money and claiming they got it from somewhere else and expecting it to be cashed in.
I loved how Charlotte thought Stacey was gonna be like, rotting in jail. So funny. It reminds me of when Jamie Newton freaked out cause he thought Mary Anne was dead in MA to the Rescue.

I've been reading this book for about a month now and I just can't get through it! Everytime I pick it up I read a chapter, roll my eyes, and put it down again. The girls are just so ridiculous, staking out freaking office supply stores to try to catch the counterfeiter. Please! And involving like, ALL of their charges. I mean, Charlotte even has her own "mystery notebook!"
I did like the shopping trip in the beginning though, and the double date with Mary Anne and Logan. I had forgotten about that date, it's been so long since I started the book. lol. I'll come back with more thoughts when I've managed to finish it in a couple of months.
ETA: I just finished this one, but the board doesn't allow double posts.
I was really struck with how mature Stacey sounds when she talks about dating. She says things like "first dates are hard sometimes, aren't they?" like she's been on a million of them. She and Terry seem to hold hands so casually - if a boy had held my hand when I was 13, I would have had a heartattack. Her and Sam seem fairly mature, too. Even though Sam is annoying and too immature for her, they are always discussing their feelings and how they like each other but don't want to be too serious.
I don't have much to say about the actual mystery other than it bored me to death and made it hard for me to get through this book! Oh, I liked how Wes was mentioned in the beginning, that was kind of cute.

great book. oh and remember charlotte freaking out about stacey going to jail, too cute. and i liked terry. and remember charlie thinking tasha was hot, isnt he a little too old for her?

I really, really, really don't remember the Charlie and Tasha thing at all. In fact, I don't remember Tasha. Maybe I should read this one again!

I just reread this book again and The Charlie and Tasha thing was just wrong in my opinion.
Charlotte was cute in this book with her spy notebook and freaking out about Stacey going to Jail.

She says things like "first dates are hard sometimes, aren't they?" like she's been on a million of them.Well, she *has* had about 15 boyfriends and she's only 13! I guess that's allowable since she's 13 for about 20 years, but still. Is it predictable for me to say that my favourite part is Stacey and Charlotte's shopping trip? And the description of the lunch that they eat?

What's their lunch? I may have to reread just for that I don't remember liking this one too much but will have to reread and see what I think.

Charlotte gets apple pie for dessert! And she has one of the specials of the children's menu, which is named after Peanuts characters, and I think it was a cheeseburger and fries that she has. And I remember a mention of a tuna sandwich as well.

And there was a grilled cheese sandwich on the children's menu, too.
...I could go for one of those right now.

I could go for just about anything with cheese, actually....
Topic: Is this the one where Charlotte gets the little stick on earrings? I always thought that was cute. Sometimes, the charges seem just as old for their ages as the sitters, and it's nice to see Charlotte do something an 8 year old girl might actually do.
