I'm glad to have found a copy of Kristy and the Missing Fortune. It took me 2 days and a half to finished it. And I just love it!

I just reread this one and liked it better than usual, even though I still found it pretty boring. I realized for the first time, though, (I'm a little slow to catch on sometimes I guess ;D) that Kristy did realize she probably wasn't related to Christina but was interested in her story and the mystery anyway. This made the book seem a lot better to me because I could relate to wanting to find a mystery and I no longer thought Kristy was just acting on a dumb assumption. I did enjoy the part about the genealogy research as this is another interest of mine. Also liked the part with Kristy visiting the old woman (can't remember her name anymore ;D) The stuff about the plants still bored me but I just skimmed it this time. ;D

I just read this book and here is a clarification on why Kristy tought she was related to Christina, besides the last name: ''I even had a vague memory of my dad telling me about his great-great-aunt Mary, who'd never married''. Mary would have been Christina's niece. p. 58-59.
Something really funny about the stakeout: ''Only Claudia and Stacey seemed at ease. They were chatting about how much fun they'd had putting together stakeout outfits that were ''dark, layered for warmth, yet totally hip'', as Claudia said.''

A "lighter" but still eye-rolling moment of parental stupidity/lack of concern/interest in his child: Mr. Ramsey drives Jessi, Becca, and Charlotte to the Arboretum for the first time. Jessi convinces her dad that they will be fine and he does not need to accompany them inside. (I think he doesn't even drop them off totally at the door). Jessi also points out to her father that when they're done (at the plant place) they can call him for a ride home at the gas station down the street! With that, John Ramsey, Sr, drives off. Now, the sign does read "Open" on the front door, but wouldn't he want to make sure whoever worked there had the time and was willing to talk with the kids? I know this is nothing compared to say Cat Burglars, still, yet another Jessi as 11=super mature know it all adult, while her dad, a real adult, might not.
Something that annoyed me was at the onset after Jessi mentioned Mrs. Dodson's ailing plants, Dawn wonders who they can find to help them. She even * gasp * asks this as in what MAN could they turn to, who knows about plants. DUH. Watson Brewer, master gardener. I think a little later in the book Watson does drive Kristy and I don't remember which of the younger kids over to the arboretum, commenting what a great place it sounded like and he'd love to check it out. So, the consistency of his being into gardening is mentioned just not acted on! Yes, I know, if he had helped the mystery might not have happened but still!

I agree that the evidence used for Kristy and Christina being related is weak. I did like reading about Watson's library.
I'm surprised that they didn't make that connection. Imagine what Karen's reaction would be. She probably wouldn't want Dawn or Mary Anne to sit for her again.

^I wish we had seen that scene. Also what about Bart Taylor and SMS principal, Benjamin Taylor? Or the Spencers mentioned in #3 and in #9. (Maureen's maiden name was Spencer). Of course there was the young boy dancer Gianmarco and the so-called Gianmarco family. I think with this one the "best" is that the Dodsons suddenly lost their kids! Either in #1 and/or #9 their was a Dodson family with children.

If Bart Taylor and SMS principal, Benjamin Taylor, were related, I wonder what the girls reactions would be. I wonder how it would affect Kristy's relationship with Bart.

Why would their relationship be affected?

^ I think it would have been fun to see the other students' reaction to Bart Taylor/Mr. Taylor/Kristy. I could see the other students acting like Kristy was buddy-buddy with the principal and getting special treatment.

I remembered that "Nannie" was supposed to be Janet Taylor, wasn't she? I have no idea what book that was from just that someone on here once said it was in a LS.

I'm sure Kristy would welcome that idea--she loved her mall security officer job
