^I agree. If there were more communication, Jessi and Mal wouldn't have to go around stalking that poor women in their Writer's group.
I thought Erin was strange. The first time I read this I was so sure she was going to kidnap Eli or something. I wouldn't have left a baby with her.

About half way through the book, I could have sworn I'd read the book before years ago, and that in the end it really was Erin's nephew somehow, but I must have been imagining things because, well it didnt happen like that. After reading this book I now want a baby to appear on my doorstep! Ms Stevenson's excuse about not telling the girls so they didnt have to lie to their grandparents sounded weak, but also somewhat plausible in theory. But I still think she should have told Abby and Anna sooner. I always thought I remembered Erin being more involved, too. I agree that I can see Mrs. Stevenson not telling the grandparents right away but think she should have told the girls. Otherwise, she seemed almost deceptive. To me, at least.

She was just weird in this one, not telling Abby and Anna who the baby really was. That always mades me disappointed when I reached the end because it was like "there was no mystery! She knew all along and we had no idea." Agreed. I just read this one and while I liked it, it did seem kinda lame. I guess I can understand Mrs. Stevenson's point of view; there are some things you just want to keep from telling your children until you are sure or know all the details about. I hope at least in the end she realized that keeping stuff private all the time only makes her daughters feel hurt and confused. I mean, it made Abby hop a train to New York by herself, for heaven's sake. The baby sounded really cute. And the writing month subplot thing sounded like it could be interesting at first, but it just ended up being boring. Abby seemed a lot "softer" in this book. It was nice to see the kind of effect babies can have on her, it gave some insight into her role as a baby-sitter and/or caregiver.

I was also a little disappointed that Erin wasn't more important to the plot I felt a little sorry for her - I thought she was in some kind of trouble at first and that was why she was so nervous. I liked the subplot in this one. It was cute seeing all the charges write (is this the one with the photosynthesis play that made Mary Anne cry? ) and I like how Abby's family went at the end. I liked the Pike triplets' gross rap

The rap was about puke. Those Pike triplets are gross. I was totally for the idea of the subplot--a prose and poetry slam. Awesome. I think if Ann had written something like that herself instead of the ghostie, it might have been more charming or memorable, and we might have gotten more dialogue from the kids. I did like the photosynthesis play, though. Becca dressed as a tree and sang about chlorophyll and Mary Anne cried. lol.

I don't think I've read this one. Would someone mind typing the Pike triplets' rap for me? Please? They're my favorite characters, so I like to know as much about them as possible.

I'm looking through the book and I don't think the final rap is shown, but some of their other "masterpieces" are: "“Snot is gluey and snot is green, snot is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen" "“When your stomach feels all funny, if you’ve eaten too much honey, all you have to do is puke, puke, puke!” began Jordan, who was also laughing and could barely get the words out. “When you’re urpy, when you’re burpy, all you have to do is –” I also got a kick out of the triplets' writing an epic poem called “The Prince of Puke Meets Lady Lost-Her-Lunch"

I loved this mystery! I was so shocked when I found out that the baby was actually Abby's cousin! I wonder what happened between Abby's mother and aunt to make them become estranged. Abby's mother should have been more honest about what she was doing. I could understand why Abby reacted the way she did when her mother wouldn't talk to her.

Since I read Abby In Wonderland before this book, I knew about the mystery and who Eli really is.
I found the lack of communication realistic in my mind. Parents don't always tell their children what is going on and kids do stupid things like sneak off to New York. I thought Anna should've fought harder to sneak off to New York with Abby.

I like how Abby went to NY. I think it would've been interesting if Anna snuck off with Abby to NY. Granted, they'd have to call someone to watch Eli or leave him alone but I think Anna also sneaking off to NY would have been interesting.

i don't think mrs stevenson was being deceptive at all. sometimes you guys jump all over her for being mean, but i think she was just the opposite -- she wanted to protect her daughters. i think she wanted to shield them from the reality that families don't always agree, that people do desperate things in desperate situations, and just enjoy having a baby to play with.

I wish Erin had somehow been involved. Her desperately needing to hang onto the job as a reason for her sneaky behavior was completely lame. I do agree that Abby was much more tolerable in this book than in most any other. I wish Anna had gone with to NY. Nannie could have watched Eli/Daniel. I think having Anna stay behind was one more reminder that she didn't matter much in BSC verse. I can understand Mrs. Stevenson wanting to talk with her Sister to make certain about the baby before telling the girls. But wouldn't she have had to do that anyway right off the bat? I mean before being allowed to keep him. The mystery could have just been why Merriam (sp)? abandoned him.
