^O/T was the Rosebud the place with the Peanuts themed kids menu? I enjoyed that, too. It was also cool that Shannon was involved back then.

The Peanuts theme was at Renwick's. I've always liked the food in this book Claudia eats grilled cheese twice -- once with Janine and then again at Thelma's.

^Thank you, Boo Boo. Grilled Cheese is my second favorite food. Although it has to be prepared "kid-like." (amer cheese on white bread). Yes, I do indeed have the eating tastes of a young'en.

I like sophisticated grilled cheeses made with fancy cheese on artisan bread, but they are no substitute when you are craving a kiddie grilled cheese with Campbell's tomato soup. Also, pickles and apple juice are a requirement.

^ To each their G.C. own. Keep the pickles and apple juice away from me. Maybe it's a kid memory of always being served apple juice for breakfast, that I didn't even like the taste of, but I just don't like the stuff. I used to love apples and now enjoy strawberry applesauce. I forgot to say that I wished we had gotten to see Claudia (for some reason, I'm assuming Dawn sent her thank you letter to all the kids to Claud--simply because her house=BSC Headquarters-- as opposed to individual notes) share the letter with the participants. Actually that could have been quite funny had for whatever reason the BSC expected "mail" and had gotten a letter addressed to them, in the "real" mail as opposed to left by Cokie in MA's mailbox.

I like this book. One of my favorite mysteries. Chapter 2 is my favorite. It was cool, how Claudia explain about their life. While taking a picture, when they came in. I didn't like Kristy this book. Telling the police officer. They want be in integration room. Any criminal shows, I watch. They caught a suspect. It's two detectives. few minutes later. the suspect's lawyer shows up. If the witness or their love one. Want hear their story of the story. They watch & listen behind the glass. A police officer. will turn the volume up. So, they can hear it. I wish, Sergeant Johnson will say no to Kristy. Sorry, maam. Only the officer & the suspect will be in the room. I said Sergent should be fire. If, the girls wants show the blow up pictures. he should have take them to other integration room. Claudia, could explain to Sergent Johnson. he could show the pictures to Mr. Z. Demand, Mr. Z. show him the watch. While the girls. was behind the two way mirror. It bugs me. That Sergent Johnson, will let all the girls in. What if, Mr. Z. took one of the girls & held them hostage. right in front of the officers. But, this BSC land. It's a pre-teen book. Sub-plot was good. That's sounds like fun project to do. A day in life of Stronybrook. Something I will like to do with my nieces. I thought, it was dumb the triplets hate getting haircut. haircut doesn't hurt. the only hurt. is when they pull to hard. But, it goes away day or so. I can understand like 2-3 year old. getting their haircut for the first time. but 10 year old boys fidgeting about getting haircut. I remember, when I was little. we had this buffalo bank. Will drop coins in it. It was big. We had it for years. I think, my parents had it when their first got married. Will drop a coin. One year. late 90's early 2000's. My mom was like lets mash the buffalo. Cause, the bottom was seal. you couldn't open it. unless you use a hammer. So, she use the hammer. The buffalo mash into pieces tons of coins on the floor. not sure, how much was in there. but I think over 2,000 coins maybe more.

I wish Claudia continued with the photography in later books. She could have become a self-employed photographer and makeup artist later in life

I started reading this one again recently, and I wish they'd touched on Mr. Kishi's past love of photography a little bit more. How did he get into it? Why did he get into it? Why did he stop? I would think that it meant something to him if he kept his camera all those years, because he doesn't strike me as one of those people who keeps old stuff around for no good reason. Also, it would have been nice to see him and Claud bond over this, as Afton mentioned years ago. She's always talking about how she doesn't fit in with her family at all...it could have been an interesting subplot for her to realize that he has something in common with her dad after all.

i agree. he's the type of person who keeps things out of practicality, so that tells me he probably expected or hoped to get involved in photography again. does it say when he got the camera? i don't remember. but even if he only picked it up when janine was a baby, it would still be years before claudia showed any interest in artistic things, so he didn't keep it just to hand it over to her.

I like the idea of he and Claudia bonding over photography! I forget, was it photos she was selling when she went to Fire Island in Stacey's Lie? If so I bet he would have been proud of her for that. He also drove her to the store in a hurry to buy film before Peaches and Lynn came home from the hospital in World's Cutest Baby

^ Yes, they were her sand castle photos. Man, now I'm really feeling like Ann and the ghostwriters dropped the ball on what could have been a neat theme running through the books...Claudia finding a little more acceptance in her family and Mr. Kishi breaking out of the stodgy investment banker bubble he was in. I wonder if he was under some sort of intense pressure from his family to do something really lucrative and practical with his life? I know it's kind of a stereotype, but I had a lot of Asian friends and classmates who were expected to be overachievers. Maybe Mr. Kishi was, too.

I think this book has more of the "regular" (Mystery aside) summery feeling that I wished "Kristy and the Vampires" and "Stacey's Lie," had more of. I still love all the smaller moments with the charges such as Stacey randomly deciding to take Jamie and Lucy over to Charlotte's where Claudia was sitting all day. That was sort of interesting in itself because very early on aside from Kristy, Claudia was Jamie's favorite sitter and we know Stacey was Charlotte's yet there was nothing about that in this one. Wish we had gotten to "follow" the other picture taking groups and gotten to see at least one or two of the photos. "We" really should do our own "Day in the Life" next year. Couple other quick things, Claudia finally, for once, tells us how great Janine is at helping her study. Mary Anne leaves a BSC meeting to run home for her roll of film for Claudia to develop. That certainly never happened before! (Page 93 at the very bottom).

^ For someone who is a stickler on starting the meeting on time, I also find it odd that Mary Anne could run home during the meeting, especially since she has the most important job as secretary. True that the alternate could take over if someone were to call. I also remember Mal leaving during a meeting but that was because she felt sick/during her mono days.

I don't know why, but I read sergeant Johnson's description and imagined him to be hot. However, I like most of you had a real issue with him letting the girls in the room.
I wonder if you could really take a picture of part of a picture and have it turn out ok?
Also, I'm sure dawn would have been appalled at the amount of paper used for her book...
