^I have always pictured Sgt. Johnson as being incredibly hot, Wiggirl. I've tried taking whole pictures of pictures before and they came out rather blurry or very small. Unless Claudia literally cut out the part of the image she wanted and then photographed/blew up it, I am not sure either how well her idea would have worked. As for Dawn, I never thought about that. You're right a lot of paper both photo and probably regular was used not to mention batteries. The photography part in this that I don't get is the black and white film. Maybe I just prefer color.

I believe that the reason for the black and white is that the chemicals and equipment for developing it at home are more readily available, and at the time the book was written, considerably less expensive as well. So Claudia's processing chemicals (who lets a teenager have a home darkroom, srs) would have been for b&w. I have never had a mental picture of Sgt. Johnson really, but I think I'll just go along with everyone else and picture him as being really hot, because life's more fun that way!

I imagined him looking like one of the cops from the show Ghostwriter, which I loved at the time this book came out.

^ I was just watching an episode the other day. I think it was the first -- if not one of the first -- where Alex is introduced and there are those buttons with the mystery code on them.

Did anyone watch "Twin Peaks"? I picture Sgt. Johnson as looking kind of like Harold Smith...you know, lanky and sort of boyish-looking.

I picture him as looking close to the way Brandon Routh did in Superman Returns but with the steely blue eyes of Christopher Reeve. All this reminds me of an almost embarrassing moment I had as a teacher. The fall after Superman Returns came out, I was doing parent-teacher conferences. One of the new dads looked enough like Brandon Routh to literally cause me to do a double take. I don't get celebrity struck and have never been into the latest scoop, but I tell you this dad was very handsome. I think because I had seen the movie only a couple months before the resemblance was more striking. Lol, this guy might have been a more true-to-life Sgt. Johnson. I do, despite, Secret Society think our Sgt. Johnson was in his mid twenties at most. This dad was more like 30+. Still a Stoneybrook connection that this thread just reminded me of.

I like that in this book there's a scene where Claudia is wearing an old Sea City T-shirt.

I thought the cafe they went to sounded really nice, I wonder if they went there again later in the series or if it was more for the older business crowd.

^I bet it was. I liked the sound of it too. If I was a Stoneybrookite I would so drop in and order a cheeseburger deluxe, grilled cheese, tuna melt, or BLT (what Kristy, Claudia, Stacey, and Shannon order, respectively!)
I've read this a gazillion times, but still noticed something new. Mr. Zibreski, vice-president of a bank, lives in an apartment. ? And this "Gretchen" he's shacked up with...I bet she doesn't exist.

Despite it being a tad unrealistic that a bunch of 13 years olds (and two 11 year olds) solve the mystery before the cops do, I actually enjoyed this one. i enjoy photography myself so the main plot was very interesting. I was surprised when Janine opened the door to the dark room twice though-I thought she was supposed to be smart! Even geniuses make mistakes I guess. It makes her human and even more likable.
The sub plot was good too.

I finished the book, and it was possibly the worst mystery ending ever. I can't believe that 1. the detectives would take those photos seriously as evidence, 2. They would be enough to get a confession out of the criminal, and 3. THE BSC WAS ALLOWED INTO THE FREAKIN' INTERROGATION ROOM! I know the books have to bend reality, but this was just insane. I know! They are minors and should have had their parents with them. This was illegal, against the law and so very unrealistic.

My dad's friend, Allen, is one of the luckiest people I know: he finds money everywhere! He has a whole jar (one of the big pickle jars) full of money he's picked up. Mostly it's coins, but occasionally he finds dollar bills, too. Lucky stiff... The only time I ever found money was a five dollar bill just lying there on the footpath on my way home. This was a few years ago and haven't had any luck finding any since then.
