Ok, I looked through this board and the Super Special one and didn;t see a thread for this, so if there was a thread feel free to ignore this. I just finished reading this one for the first time, and I really had mixed feelings about it. I always love the mysteries where the girls actually deal with criminals, for some reason, which was what I liked about this one. Although, as always, it irks me to no end when they're actually in physical danger and absolutely refuse to tell their parents. I liked the re-appearance of Shadow Lake and the descriptions of the cabin and everything. Oh, and Claudia was acting like a major b*tch to Abby. I didn;t feel it was necessary for her to act like such a wench every time Abby mentioned anything even remotely related to skiing. But, i guess that was the obligatory Super Special fight.

I liked this super mystery. I agree with you when I liked the mysteries that dealt with actual crimes. I also liked how this mystery tied in with another mystery they had been involved in. Wasn't the guy named Carl Tate?

Yeah, Karl Tate from Dawn and the Disappearing Dogs. His son Woodie was the one stalking the BSC though. (The name Woodie Tate amuses me). lol ;D

Oh, this book terrified me when I was little. Thinking about it now, it really is pretty creepy for a BSC book! I think this book also has one of the instances where the sitter who is supposed to be narrating is referred to in the third person...in one of Claudia's chapters, IIRC? Those confused me so much when I was a kid -- I never even considered that they were an editing mistake, I thought I was actually missing some plot point!

^Haha yeah, it says something like "Claudia's red nail polish was spilled all over" but it was Claudia's chapter.

I think this is one of my least favorite mysteries and super mysteries. Not sure why, though, as I always like Shadow Lake books. Maybe too much Abby. But I've liked her better lately, so I might have to reread (not until winter, though, because this one is too "cold" for me right now ;D)

I'm reading this for the first time right now so I'm not reading the whole thread cause I don't wanna be spoiled But I really enjoy it so far! And I usually HATE mysteries! I love how it's written like a Super Special (it's my 1st Super Mystery!) and actually it's really scary!! Maybe I'm just a wuss (I hate scary stories) but I would seriously FREAK OUT if any of that stuff happened to me that happens to the girls. Love how they start the mystery notebook and Mal volunteers to put it together. Although could she whine about insulation a little more? Geesh. Also like the references to other BSC mysteries I'll post again when i've finished (hopefully tonight!)

Oh, this book terrified me when I was little. Thinking about it now, it really is pretty creepy for a BSC book! Yup! I was totally freaked out by everything that happened to them, the fire at Claudia's, the prowler at Kristy's, the lurker at Mary Anne's (and when Tigger came into the house with a note tied to his collar!! ) The only one that didn't really scare me was Stacey's -- she totally, like, waited for the car to come barrelling towards her. She put her hands out and closed her eyes. I really liked Abby in this book.

I just finished reading this. I liked it pretty well but geez SO MUCH happened! Was the Mallory/insulation subplot really necessary? And what was up with the guy with the blue tattoo? How did that tie in at all? And we never get to know who wrote the notes to MA and Logan? Just seems like this one came together a bit too quickly at the end. Shannon, MA and Logan getting locked in the Tates' house seems just... ridiculous. And the fact that they followed Astrid in! WTH!

^ What was the insulation subplot? I don't remember anything about this one since it's been so long since I've read it. I do kind of remember thinking it was pretty scary, though, and liking Abby okay - better than usual at least (but she's been "growing on me" lately ))

The Pikes are reinsulating their attic--a DIY project--and Mal and Jessi are in charge of all the kids.

^Thanks. It's really been a long time since I've read this one as I don't remember that at all but it does sound good. ;D

The Pike subplot was unnecessary, but it wasn't too bad. Mal's whining got slightly tiresome, but I can relate. When there's some big project going on in my parents' lives, it's all they talk about, so I feel her pain.
I think this is my favourite SM, even though I like them all. I think it's my favey because it's the most realistic. And it was all pretty creepy. But yeah, you're right - Stacey was pretty stupid about the car thing, just standing there was the car was coming towards her.
The only thing I didn't like was the MA/Logan "mystery." It was so, so unnecessary! Yet again, it seems that Cokie is sending people mysterious letters trying to cause trouble. Yawn.

^ Cokie and the mysterious letters again? Isn't that like the 3rd book. I have to reread this one now ;D
