I found the scene with someone outside of MA's house a bit confusing, too, but didn't think much of it because I was so creeped out at the thought. My dad is so paranoid now (not because of this book ;D) about noises, etc in the night and insists that I "get him up IMMEDIATELY" if I even hear something and that's all I could think about when I was reading this one.

Ack. Never mind the first point. I looked at the vandalism part again and my brain's been skipping paragraphs! It explains that quite some time passed before MA saw the person outside her house. aln, I get paranoid about noises at night too, but I have my brother and dad in the house, so I don't get too freaked. I know a couple of people who keep umbrellas and things near their beds in case a burglar surprises them.

I definitely agree that this is one of the scariest BSC mysteries - I read it for the first time over the summer and it gave me some real chills!

This is is deff. one of my favorite bsc mysteries! I like to read a mystery and then "forget about it" so I can resolve it later. ;D

I know a couple of people who keep umbrellas and things near their beds in case a burglar surprises them. I used to not worry about noises but now they freak me and my parents out ever since my dad was attacked last year by an escaped mental patient while checking things over in our motor home in our storage barn. That kind of experience has given me a whole new perspective on things, especially the BSC mystery books. Suddenly, they all seem very plausible and a lot scarier. It also makes me like them more, though, I think. I didn't care for this one the first few times I read it but the last time, after this experience, it really spooked me but not in a bad way and I really enjoyed it. ;D

That's really awful. I didn't know things like that happened in real life. Why wasn't the guy being supervised? Was he just allowed to do as he pleased while he had the pass?
And that seriously is a 'super chiller.' I'm glad the BSC mysteries never got as crazy as the Sweet Valley 'thrillers' although I guess 'Baby-sitters Beware' did come pretty close.

^ I didn't know things like that happened in real life, either, until it did. He was supposed to be just on a pass to "walk around" the grounds and was probably supposed to be supervised but somebody didn't do their job..... Of course, he had totally manipulated everyone in the hospital into thinking he was "cured", as the head of the hospital explained to my parents (won't even go into all that jerk said - the crazy guy had him totally fooled....) We could have sued but it would have just dragged things out for little reward and we just wanted it to end so we could move on. It was really traumatic, though. I can see how the BSC might have trouble getting over some of the scary things they've had to deal with and wonder if this makes them more sensitive in later books (though it doesn't seem to make them more cautious ;D My dad was a really cautious guy before and for a while after this, he was practically paranoid.... ;D) Anyway, just for the info of anyone on the east side of MI, the crazy guy is near you in a max security mental hospital in Ypsilani but only for 4 more years because then he will have "served his time".... BSC-lovers Beware.... ;D

^ Oh, that is the remainer of the time for his INITIAL crime of attacking someone else. He got absolutely nothing for what he did to us because he is "crazy" .... But he will soon be "rehabilitated" (as long as he stays on his meds, which obviously doesn't happen when he is on his own....)

I just finished this one and my reaction is mixed. I thought it was a pretty good mystery. The subplot was mis-direction, done pretty well for the age group, I suppose. I thought it was nice that Mal and Jessi and the kids all got caught up with the guy with the blue Tattoo -- thats pretty funny. Becca being afraid of people with tattoos is amusing to me too, as I used to be petrified of people with tats when I was really young like that. Of course, now I kind of find them hot on skinny rock star types. I would never get one myself, of course.
I was really annoyed with Mary Anne and her stupid handwriting and her Logan drama; but I did like it when Shannon was trapped in that room with Logan and Mary Anne. I thought it was scary and amusing.
Claudia and Abby's fight I can totally see happening. That kind of stuff happened so often when I would bring groups of friends with me places. I totally understood where Claudia was coming from.
The climax was kind of lame, and I was am really concerned about the BSCs reaction to criminals. They could have been seriously hurt. They should have told someone.
Kristy still worries about Watson, it was nice and sweet. That's all I really can say. It's been done before.
Mal volunteering to go through the notebook and copy over all the mystery crap? Girl needs a hobby. How about Ben? (I'm trying to find a way to work the term "Ballory" or "Men" into this post and it's not working.)
Oh! Stacey/Sam (Stam? Smacey?) moments -- cute. I'm glad they can be friends. But how lame is Sam? "I want to flirt with you so I can stay in practice for my next girlfriend" Whatever Sam. You are lucky she didn't smack you for that. He's so the guy who in the future is going to be like "I want to break up, but can we still sleep together?"

I guess what Mal said is true. I never have totally privacy because my parents can hear my music and stuff through the walls. I like this book a lot...even though it gave me the creeps.

I like Stam. Neither Ballory nor Men really appeal to me, though :/ Has Abby ever called Mallory Ballory during an allergy fit? Mallory-Ballory also sounds like a possible Claireism.
