Good lord this book was boring. I didn't really get anything out of it. Thought the whole setup was lackluster (Claudia basically just has a feeling that Grandmother Madden couldn't have destroyed her paintings and ended up right, and the solution was recycled from Mallory and the Mystery Diary. Yawn). I don't even think I can give a proper review, because I'd read a chapter and realize I couldn't recall anything about it. Lol.
I figured I'd enjoy this to an extent, because I like Claudia's art-related books. I'm also an artist, so I figured I'd care, but dang, I just didn't! I did enjoy the subplot slightly more, even though it was kind of shallow? It was kind of fun reading about what the kids created, and fun reading about Abby getting invested in it (also, I didn't realize one could be allergic to paint. Idk why that never occurred to me, because weirder allergies exist). That was the only real enjoyable part to me.
Claudia getting trapped in the closet was actually quite shocking to read about. I'm shocked it's going to take 4 more mysteries for the girls to realize that maybe they shouldn't be involved with solving crimes lol.
I am so sorry, I wanted to like this one, but it was just so, so boring. I gave to give it a 2. Hoping something sticks with me on my next reread.
