I found it interesting that they never figured out who was sending the notes to MA and Logan in Baby-Sitters Beware. That is driving me crazy now, though, because I want to know. ;D I wondered if there are any other mysteries that they didn't solve. I seem to remember a few but can't think of them right now.

I saw this thread and immediately thought of the TV show. Which I miss, btw.
Yeah, it was weird that they never showed us in that book, but I think I remember it coming up again.

^ I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure it WAS solved at some point.
Even though they weren't technically mysteries, we never found out who/what made the noises in the middle of the night in Dawn's secret passage, and we never found out what was really going on with the old house in "Stacey and the Mystery of Stoneybrook." I know the old man admitted to making some things up, but there was some weird stuff that they heard/saw that wasn't really explained.

The mystery in The Babysitters at Shadow Lake was never solved.

They also never figured out whether the Ghost Cat was really a ghost. Same with the owner when he came to claim the cat - I recall Mal saying the guy was the "spitting image of Kennedy Graham," even though Kennedy Graham was supposedly dead.

Yeah, I thought so too? Wasn't it Cary? Yep. Cary admitted to it in Mystery #23, Abby and the Secret Society. (Sorry, I'm kind of a walking Cary thesaurus at the moment... go figure.)

I can't remember why he did it. Did he just answer with his typical 'complications make life interesting'? I should go find the book, but I'm lazy. I do remember not feeling satisfied for some reason about his answer and then I think I attributed it to his having a crush on MA and wanting to break her and Logan up. Wild theories, yay! On the Shadow Lake mystery: Claudia suggested that everyone on the island had been murdered, but Dawn ruled it out on the basis that there was no blood or sign of commotion and the killer must have been 'awfully tidy.' I think she also asked where the bodies would have gone. I don't agree with this argument, because those reasons kind of suck. An island that no one can access speedily or readily makes murder really easy (and it's not like they could have called for help, since there was no phone, if I recall correctly.). There's plenty of time for the killer to clean up any blood and rearrange furniture, and then, I don't know, burn the bodies and toss them into the sea, or bury them in the woods. I suppose the number of people on the island might make it difficult, but some kind of sleeping drug could easily be given to all of them, especially if one of the servants was the culprit. Or something. I know this is pretty morbid, but I was reading 'And Then There Were None' by Agatha Christie this morning and the island setting made me think of the BSC.

From Abby and the Secret Society: Then later on in the book, when Cary starts leaving false clues for the girls to find... So, yeah... you never really get a straight answer with him. But after reading all of the Cary/MA interaction in FF, I kind of got the same impression when I re-read that particular passage. (Edited because I can't spell to save my life on the laptop keyboard... )

Oh, thanks! I would have had to dive under my bed to find the book. You know, I don't actually remember MA or Logan suspecting Cary, at least not in 'Babysitters Beware.' I think MA and the others girls initially thought it was Cokie and then afterwards both MA and Logan just assumed the notes were genuine and from each other (*sigh*). Oh, well. aln or whoever said Cary is somewhat criminal-like might have a good point- he can copy people's handwriting that well? I re-read 'Abby and the Secret Society' earlier this year and then 'BB Beware' straight after and knowing Cary wrote the notes brought up the idea about Cary having a crush on MA. I guess I never thought of that when I was younger because I used to be 'OMG, MA/Logan Forever!' and I'd never read the FF books. Still. I like Kristy/Cary better.

See, I never read any of the later books when I was younger (they had JUST started to come out with the Mysteries, and the Super Mysteries were still unheard of!) So, all of my theorizing has happened within the past year or so. I'm at work now, and can't check, but I don't think they really suspected him in Baby-sitters Beware, either. They tossed around a couple of names... Cokie was one of them, and they mentioned Cary vaguely (as in, "he's the new guy and he's been involved with a bunch of pranks, so maybe?") but if I remember right, they dismissed the idea pretty quickly. Cary does have an odd array of skills. His knowledge of guns/detective-type stuff, I assume came from his dad's former police officer job, and the picking locks can pretty easily be attributed to his dad being a locksmith... but there's really no excuse for forgery, is there...

I do remember that they briefly considered both Cokie and Cary as possible suspects for the vandalism at Kristy's house and/or Claudia's trashcan fire. I think that might have been the part where they talk about Cary being the new guy who loves pranks. Oh, I'm just going to check. Here we go: Ha! So they think Cokie couldn't commit such criminal acts, but Cary could? I'm flicking through the MA and Logan parts and they don't mention Cary at all. MA, Stacey and Claudia all think it's Cokie, probably because there doesn't seem much point in someone writing notes that would cause a relationship problem if you didn't want a problem to arise. And Cokie's the one with the (acknowledged) crush on one of the targeted people. I'm so disappointed we never found out more about Cary's past. In 'Kristy Power!' I was dying to know, and then when Kristy asked at the end and only got wise-guy answers, I nearly threw the book across the room in frustration.

I know... it was the worst ending ever.
I wonder if they knew, at that point, how short-lived the series would be, and if they ever intended to fill us in on his past, or if they always just intended for him to be a vague, mysterious character...
