I'm re-reading all the Super Specials (not in order, sadly... I read all the ones I had, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8, and am now reading the rest in order). This one is great and I'm surprised that I liked Mary Anne and Mallory's story the best. I'm not sure why; I guess I've always liked the Pikes (which makes no sense. I am NOT a kid person). I liked all the storylines, although Jessi's wasn't as interesting as it could have been. I think it needed another chapter to flesh it out more maybe.
I've skimmed through the thread and agree with most of the points (why didn't Kristy just take a shower instead of all that "primping," why didn't Mrs. McGill at least try to stay in the mall and off the back roads, etc), so I'll point out a few things that stood out to me.
I'm not sure why, but this book felt WEIRD to me. Still enjoyable, but so much stands out. A meeting was cancelled?! Wild! And MA and Mal's sitting job overlapped with said meeting, then Claudia had a sitting job at 6 directly afterwards (across the street but still). I'm shocked this didn't happen more often. I assumed having a sitting job would be the perfect excuse to miss, but it felt like missing meeting was INCREDIBLY rare. Then Jessi had to miss it because of a rehearsal. So you're telling me or IS possible for the club to function without everyone being present for every meeting. Kristy's Worst Idea is null and void.
WTF?! I know this has been pointed out, but I can't get over it. I'm so weirded out by it. Quint walked all the way from the train station to Jessi's school and was like, "It's my parent's choice to worry about me." WHAT?! That's just... a really bizarre perspective to have. Then again, Quint acts like he's 32 instead of 11 anyway. I'm surprised he was allowed to walk. Wouldn't the workers at the station make him wait there? I mean, if something happened to him, they'd be liable right? I might be way off. Plus, I don't think it was mentioned how close it was to the school.
I do wish we got a chapter dedicated to the dance, though (well, we got a lovely... illustration at least haha).
