I always wondered why Mrs. McGill was driving on backroads. If they lived somewhere normal, where helpful strangers weren't wandering around, they could've frozen to death. The idea of being caught in a snowstorm driving home from a mall is a very foreign concept to me, so I've often wondered what really would've happened to them IRL. I remember Mrs McGill gave some strange reason for choosing the backroads, but I can't remember what it was now, will have to double check. In a way, I can understand their decision to drive home as opposed to waiting around at the mall... probably not the most intelligent of choices, but often people can be a little careless and just assume things will be okay.

Wasn't it because she didn't want to be in an accident, and there were too many crazy drivers on the highway?

^ But it wouldn't be a problem if they had an accident all alone in te back roads, would it

^ well, I guess her reasoning was, there would be less chance of an accident on the back roads which are apparently free of crazy drivers.

My copy of this one is at the back of my other books and I'm too lazy to get it out so wondered if someone had their copy on hand or had just reread if she would answer one question. When does this book take place? Is it near Christmas and if so, does it talk much about holiday preparations? Feeling totally overwhelmed getting ready myself and running out of Christmasy BSC books to read to get me in the mood Thanks.

Near Christmas, but there isn't much talk about it - Washington Mall is really decorated, and they're going to have a Winter Wonderland dance at the school. And Kristy mentions that her house is almost all decorated for Christmas.

Thanks Jen! I might read it but only if I have time. Otherwise, I'll wait until after Christmas. So overwhelmed right now...

There are other, more Christmas-y ones if you're in the mood for Christmas books! There's a thread somewhere else on this forum about them.

So I've finally solved the mystery of why Bart couldn't just walk home from Kristy's. I've just started reading the LS book "Karen's Baby-Sitter." Long story short, Karen and Andrew need a little house sitter for two weeks and for some reason the BSC doesn't have anyone available. Kristy tells Lisa to ask Bart because he lives halfway between Watson's and Lisa's and could walk to the little house every day. So Bart doesn't live just a few houses away from Kristy like I thought he did and wasn't a big wimp for not walking home in the blizzard. Watson still sucked for not offering to drive though.
Oh, and Mrs. McGill? Country roads have less traffic but the snowplows hit them last after the highways and main streets. More traffic would also mean a warmer road so the snow would be more melty rather than sticking. Dummy.

Hehe, cut Mrs. McGill some slack. They're from New York City! What does she know about driving in the winter? Stupid, yes, but I can see the logic on her part. Maybe. I'm just going to have to stick with the "she wouldn't know any better" theory.

If she's from New York City then she should really know not to drive in a snowstorm, especially considering Stacey's rather unflattering comments on her driving in normal weather!

Wait.....what?! How on earth is that possible? I could swear that it's been mentioned that Bart lives like, two houses down from Shannon or something. If he lives so close to the little house that he can walk to it everyday, then how do him and Kristy walk home from Krushers/Bashers game together? This doesn't make any sense! (But it's kinda cool that Bart showed up in a Little Sister book.)

Bart walks Kristy home and then continues on his own, I guess. I don't think it was ever mentioned in the regular series that he's two houses down from Shannon... In Kristy and the Mystery Admirer, he gets Kyle to deliver the love letters, and he got the letterboxes mixed up, so I don't think they're on the same street.

I always thought Bart was right down the street from Kristy too. How'd they meet if he lives so far away? I haven't read the book where they meet in ages (which is it?)
